day three hundred hundred fifty-seven.

Day Three Hundred Fifty-seven Saturday 8/21/10
Dress:  Gold long sleeveless dress
Purchased From:  Morgantown Goodwill
Year or Era Purchased: Fall 2005
Price: $3-5
Accessories:  Blue sandals
Hair and Makeup: Down and curled but as usual these days it got gross and tangly, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: A woman asked if I had been in a wedding, to which I replied, "No, I just felt like being fancy."  My Mom remembered that it was a dress I bought when we were thrift shopping/a Halloween costume, and she liked my sandals.  Also when I was leaving a cat job on Saturday evening two older men told me to be careful, in a nice way.  It was sort of funny.  They had no idea I was just going home.

I like to think of this as my Golden Girls dress since it actually came with another long sleeveless vest type thing that you see the ladies of the Golden Girls rocking.  I originally bought it and wore it for the Trojan Horse costume we built. I added some gold ribbon trim and I think cut off some sleeveage but I honestly can't remember. I've been dreading wearing this dress because it's a little odd, in a bad way, for my usual tastes.  It was great for the costume but I also had a sweet hairpiece and lots of other people in costume to look dorky with.  Plus I was something like twenty pounds tinier.  Ugh.  Oh well I have pictures.

Sorry for the walk down memory lane.  It was necessary.   That's why I've kept the dress all these years.  The Trojan Horse halloween year was by far my favorite.  Nothing will top it.

Ok, back to present day.  Michael and I woke up early and got ready and headed to the burbs to spend the day with my Mom for her birthday, which was Thursday the 19th.   Everything prevented us from leaving the house- a kitten, the coffee maker overflowing, etc.  We got there and gave her cupcakes and presents and then headed out for some thrift store shopping and yard sales, followed by lunch at the White Horse Tavern, where we all got cheese hoagies. Yum.  I was the only one who scored big in the shopping department.  I got four dresses (for $16.25, three of them vintage), a vintage aqua pitcher, a vintage log planter and a cat paint by numbers set.  Nice.  When we left lunch we saw this:

Because my parents live near Lancaster County and people apparently drive their tractors to the tavern.  Amazing.

Michael got grey thread and my Mom got a little cottage planter.  We had quite a lovely day.  On the way back to the city we dropped off a wheelchair at my sister-in-laws and then made a quick coffee pit stop.  Once home I headed out to do a few jobs and then Michael, Steve and I watched lots of television, including some of the new Kids in the Hall Death Comes to Town episodes while Steve snuggled with Soda.  She's a cutie.  Seriously- adopt her!

day three hundred and eight.

Day Three Hundred Eight Saturday 7/3/10
Dress:  Blue Floral Vintage Dress
Purchased From:  MOLLY DELANEY
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $FREE

Accessories:  Black flats
Hair and Makeup: Braid twists on each side, usual makeup with some brownish lipstick at times
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Lots of dress compliments, Rica and Louise thought it might be a bridesmaid dress, Louise commented that I fit right into her garden, Spano said "now that's a dress", a stranger liked it, etc. etc.

Saturday was a full, lovely day.  I woke up and got dressed in this amazing dress that Ms. Molly Delaney graced me with.   I knew I'd be headed to our friend's Brian and Louise's house later in the day for a bbq in their garden so I thought why not throw on this crazy, amazing vintage bridesmaidesque dress?   I felt awesome all day long.  I met up with Michael, Sean and Spano at Milk Crate Cafe for coffee, soccer and some record shopping.  I got the Best of Otis Redding and Madonna Like a Virgin.  Awesome.  I left the coffee shop and headed to a new cat client consultation.  They were a really a cute couple with a cute couple of cats and they live just two blocks from me.  Word.  I headed home and then out for a bit of farmers market and book shopping.  I came home and made Michael and I small sandwiches from a fresh baguette.  I then made a truffled Asian green been salad, some chipotle ranch broccoli slaw, and marinated some zucchini for grilling.  We then headed out to the burbs for Ms. Louise's thirty-third birthday bbq. It was lovely and relaxing.  I made a basil gin lemonade and we grilled veggie and real burgers, corn and zucchini.  Louise made a corn/bean salsa.  Yum.  We stuffed our faces and drank fancy drinks.  I got to hold Lemon while she had the hiccups. So sad.  We hung out until late and then headed home for some much needed sleep.  It was quite a lovely day. Here are some Lemon shots at just a few days shy of two months old :

day two hundred fifty.

Day Two Hundred Fifty Wednesday 5/5/10
Dress:  Blue Floral Long Dress
Purchased From:  Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $3.95
Accessories:  Green flats, little kid barrettes
Hair and Makeup: Curled with two mini buns, usual makeup with teal eyeshadow
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  A stranger working in a building I visit for dogwalking asked me how big my closet is, one of the door guys asked me if I was "getting pictures done today" and said I looked nice, Michael noticed that i pinned the top closed and told me I wouldn't be able to go on an airplane.  He's so helpful.

As I type this my best friend is in labor.  It's possible she'll deliver in the next few hours.  I'm super excited for her and her husband.  I've had butterflies all day and haven't been able to eat.  Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!   Hopefully before I post this I'll have some news and can type that Sue and Jake have a little baby girl Lemon.

I bought this dress yesterday at the Thrift Fair.  I went in specifically looking for a good Cinco de Mayo dress and found this in the pajama section.  Score!!!

Okay, five hours later and no baby yet, still waiting.

I spent my day with a belly full of butterflies in anticipation of a baby.  After work I stopped to pick up some stuff to put into a "you're having a baby" bag including some vegan potato soup from essene, veggie jerky, vegan peanut butter cups and coconut water.  I grabbed some balloons and a cheesy yard sign that read "it's a girl" and dropped them off in the front yard at Sue and Jake's.

I went to dinner with Michael and Rica at Cantina.  It was a mistake to crave vegan beef and a margarita.  It took forever to get a table and my one margarita gave me a headache instead of happiness.  Now I'm killing time watching tv and waiting to hear of baby news!

Ok, I got the news very early this morning.  She was born at 12:55AM 5/6/2010 7lbs. 4oz. 19inches Lemon Josephine Henry.  Congratulations to the lovely parents Sue and Jake Henry.  I am so excited for you guys!!!!!!!!!!

day two hundred thirty-three.

Day Two Hundred Thirty-three 4/18/10
Dress:  Long Green Vintage Dress
Purchased From: ? A thrift store, can't remember which one
Year or Era Purchased: At least Fall 2008 or maybe even before
Price: ?
Accessories:   black on black chucks, pirate ship brooch, pink knit hat
Hair and Makeup:  Two low pigtails, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  A woman on the street complimented my coat, not shown

I've been waiting to wear this dress because a. I couldn't find it for like six months and b. it was quite warm outside once I found it and I couldn't bring myself to wear it.  I love it, don't get me wrong. It's just a bit much for everyday wear.   I wish I could remember more about it.  I want to guess that it came from Circle Thrift, maybe before they moved.  I don't know.  I wore it once before the the 700 Awards.  Even though I only left the house once to go to the grocery store I wore it all day.   Sometimes it's fun to be dressed up at home.

I spent my day a little hungover from Saturday night's fun.  I got up pretty late and decided sandwiches were in order.  I put on this dress and walked to the corner store only to find them closed so I hopped in the car and headed to the Thriftway, our crazy people grocery store.  It's such a place to be seen.  As usual I encountered someone awesome, an old man, I'd say in his eighties who flirted with me and told me tales of World War II and discovering he had a child in Germany.  It was all a bit of a blur of conversation in front of the jelly section.  He was quick and cute and to the point and didn't seem crazy at all, maybe a little lonely.  He didn't overstay his welcome, just got in and got out so he left me with a smile.  I came home and immediately told Michael the whole story.

I made us sandwiches and I must say they were perfection.  I savored every bite and then savored every moment of couch suck.   We cleared out a large of chunk of our dvr and in between Michael worked on our bedroom floor using tung oil and citurs solvent.  Our whole house smells like orange oil.  I baked cupcakes and the chocolate scents mixed with the orange, much better than polyurethane any day.

I made us a late dinner of veggie chicken in a white wine lemon butter sauce,  a saute of mushrooms, walnuts and kale, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob.  Swoon.

day one hundred forty-five.

Day One Hundred Forty-five 1/20/2010
Dress: Grey Business Lady Dress
Purchased From:  Circle Thrift
Year or Era Purchased:  Fall 2009
Price: $5
Accessories: black tights, green flats, vintage cream and black short sleeved cardigan, bird necklace, grey waist belt
Hair and Makeup: Down for most of the day and curled with hot rollers. I don't know why I put it up for the picture, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: A few shoe compliments, one hair compliment and some guy in an elevator said I was "pretty and helpful" since I held the door for him.  I think that was more insulting than complimentary for some reason.

I did not want to get out of bed today. Since I was exhausted and Michael and I taught ourselves to use the espresso maker I attempted to make myself a cappuccino.  I don't think I did it super well but it turned out okay.  I'll give it another try with some better coffee tomorrow.  I spent the morning wasting time on the internets and searching for some old writing samples to no avail.  I'm sure I put them in some random box, wrapped them  in saran wrap and buried them in a drawer somewhere.  Maybe not the saran wrap part so much.  I forced myself to get ready early and get my butt out the door and working on time.  I came close.  Slow process, it's a slow process.  I liked my outfit today. I felt vintage professional.  It's funny I picked out this outfit so I could feel grown up and cute when I met with the advisor at CCP but then I didn't take off my ratty dog walking coat and I wore my dirty and beat to hell purse.  Oh well.  I tried.  If I had a fancy office (ok, not so much fancy but you know, fancier than picking up dog poo) job I'd wear this outfit.

I worked a bunch and then went to CCP and met with a really nice Professor and the advisor for the Creative Writing program.  I then had to deal with the welcome center/admission gods only to find out I am at the mercy of the transcript request timeframe.  Ugh.  No transcripts equals no skipping core classes I've already taken.  Blargh.  I've emailed a possible professor asking if I can audit her class until I am officially a student and officially have 15 credits of core classes I've taken over ten years ago.  Cross your fingers.

For some reason I was seriously tired after working today.  It might be because I had to deal with a drunky client.  I do not like this so much.  It was her birthday and she cried a lot.  Her emotions ran the gamut from sad to scared and injured to worried about getting items from Costco.  She said she felt dizzy as she had fallen a day and a half ago. I am pretty certain that the birthday lunch drinks she had and the glass of wine she downed while I was there may have had something to do with her dizziness.  How do I end up in situations like these? Maybe if I get all into this creative writing thing I'll write a dog walking memoir.

I came home and collapsed on the couch and succumbed to bad dvr'd television such as celebrity rehab, american idol and some food network worst chefs show.  It felt good to do nothing and veg out for a while.  Michael came home and I made us easy dinner: lasagna roll ups (lasagna noodles spread with ricotta, sauteed mushrooms, and sauce and then rolled up and put into a casserole dish, covered with sauce and mozzarella cheese), garlic bread, roasted zucchini and angel hair pasta with three cheese store bought sauce.  It was pretty yummy but I was able to resist seconds, good thing since I bailed on the gym today.

I am off to my blissful comforters and pillows now and I'm super happy about it.

Day one hundred thirty-nine.

Day One Hundred Thirty-nine 1/14/2010
Dress: Black 80's Tea Length Dress
Purchased From:  Circle Thrift
Year or Era Purchased:  Winter 2009
Price: $2.50
Accessories: black boots, grey tights, Kurt Halsey bird necklace, black waist belt, blue scarf/hat combo
Hair and Makeup:  dirty, bangs to the side and down, usual makeup with extra blush because of the Criminal Minds episode about the doll serial killer
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:

This dress is weird and it gets static cling really easily and the silky fabric feels rough against my dry winter skin.  The sleeves are weird and get tight in unusual spots and it's not super flattering but it was $2.50 and it's like nothing I own.  I paired it with a waist belt since it's a little baggy and it helped it a little but I need to find a real solution for this one if I'm going to keep it in the collection.  Also my hair is wicked dirty and wearing winter hats and having bangs is causing it to get gross and greasy at a more rapid pace than usual. Do not want. I don't like to wash my hair too much. I need to go wash it now but my money's on I won't.  Today was stupid and I threw a bunch of angry little fits.  I has the stress.  I worked, went to Trader Joe's (that place is enough to cause someone to start shooting, it is ALWAYS packed regardless of time of day), worked more, dragged myself to the gym, came home and started on dinner.  Dinner was a giant pain in my ass tonight and I totally threw a pot across the room and bent the hell out of it after I messed up my butter/flour ratio for my roux, then burned my butter for my second roux and then knocked an entire bowl of shredded cheese onto the floor.  That pot is now in the recycling bin.  It was sort of cathartic.  Michael and I later joked we should keep it and hang it up in case we ever need to throw something but it's still outside waiting to be recycled.

I did manage to finish dinner and it was good.  I made the leftover kielbasa from last night, stovetop macaroni and cheese (as in from scratch but not baked), kale with panfried walnuts from epicurious, applesauce and leftover cheese pie.  My guts were horribly full.  We thought we were tired from gorging ourselves but when I went to refill my water I realized that the gas stove was on and spewing gas into the house.  Awesome.  I spent the rest of the night on the couch watching Thursday night television and cursing the dvr for cutting everything off.  Why does everything have to start or end one to three minutes before or after the hour? What is wrong with even hours I ask you?  I think I need to take my cranky pants to bed and hope for a better day tomorrow.

day one hundred thirty-seven and day one hundred thirty-eight.

someday that ugly wallpaper will be red paint.

Day One Hundred Thirty-seven 1/12/2010
Dress: Black and White Flower Print Dress
Purchased From:  Circle Thrift
Year or Era Purchased:  Winter 2009
Price: $5
Accessories: Black underslip, black cardigan, pink hat during the day, bluish green tights, black leg warmers, black ballet flats
Hair and Makeup:  Pulled back into a low bun, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:

Our internet was down for a day.  Sorry for the lack of update.  Yesterday was jam packed so I was sort of relieved that I didn't have to update when I sat down at my computer and realized no internets.  I woke up as usual and took Michael to the el, came home and got ready and had some coffee before heading out to work, do a new client consultation and then head into center city to meet up with Michael, his Mom, sister and her boyfriend for drinks a a bite the rooftop bar of The Continental.  I didn't have any alcohol as my guts are still slightly pickled from Saturday night.  I did have the tofu tempura and mushroom flatbread.  The tofu was divine.  I've never been to Continental as it seems a little too bourgeois for me since I'm not super classy.  It's actually really awesome and the upstairs has an outdoor and indoor seating area.  The indoor area has an awesome retro fire place.  It was the perfect place to relax before heading back out into the cold for our walk to the Academy of Music to see Wicked, our Christmas present.  It was really great and I loved the story but most of all I loved the costumes.  I wanted so many of them, especially the black and white costumes, my god!

The dress I wore was purchased last week at Circle Thrift.  It's not the best fitting, with some button puckering but I wanted to look sort of nice since we had plans.  Last night I totally woke up at 3:30AM and peed out of my bum (pickled guts, no more blackberry brandy ever again!) so perhaps it would've been better off trying that dress today.

I don't know what that dumb face is?

Day One Hundred Thirty-eight 1/13/2010
Dress: Orange and Printed Vintage Dress
Purchased From:  donated from my mom's friend.
Year or Era Purchased:  Fall 2009
Price: Free
Accessories: Gray sweater, black under blouse, black tights, blue leg warmers, black on black chucks
Hair and Makeup:  Double mini-buns and braids, usual makeup with extra black eye shadow
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: I was referred to in the following manner while in the room"oh isn't she pretty"

This dress was provided to me from my Mom's friend and came from that friend's Mom who used to work in a factory (I think I'm remembering this correctly) that manufactured this and other types of this style dress.  It's sort of dorky and weird and bright but I like it.  I paired with a grey cardigan to tone it down a bit but since I wore my coat all day the crazy pattern part was the only visible section.  Since I woke up in the middle of the night I slept in and Michael braved the cold and road his bike to work.  I spent the rest of the day working and stopped at the grocery store before heading home for a big night in on the couch.  I did make a yummy dinner of pierogies, veggie kielbasa, vegetarian baked beans, a cheese pie and a small salad.  Not the healthiest but I certainly controlled my portions pretty well today in hopes that my belly has finally settled.   I pray for no more middle of the night belly innard punching feelings and tomorrow I hope to get my butt back to the gym for the first time this week! Boring.  Goodnights.

Day:

I only wore this dress for maybe an hour and I didn't leave the house today.  It was really fabulous.  I didn't get out of bed until after 11 and then spent my day making a yummy quiche of asparagus, swiss cheese, onions, veggie sausage, green pepper and mushrooms so good! I spent the rest of the day lounging about on a pillow bed made of couch cushions and watching at least seven episodes of Lost season 5 and I'm continuing to do so as we speak. I needed a day like this.  It's a shame I was putting off this dress since it's not very flattering but I like it with the belt.  Oh well.  At least now I know I want to keep it.   I think I've had this dress for many years and I've worn it maybe two or three times.  Time to get back to Lost.  I love watching it all in a row.  Ahhhhh.

day ninety-three.

hair and feathers.

Day Ninety-three 11/29/2009

Year or Era Purchased:  ? Maybe High School?

Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  Michael said I look pretty, a client said she liked my hair and feathers.

Day:

Today was the opposite of yesterday in that I didn't do much at all and barely left the house. Michael and I woke up to say goodbye to Chad before he headed home to Boston.  I got up and made coffee and then Michael and I stayed in bed for two hours playing words with friends and having coffee and being lazy. It was fabulous.  We finally got out of bed and then after getting dressed and prinked I walked Rosie and went to the store for bread and of course followed it up with more lazy.  My clients came to get Rosie, our beagle visitor, and then we had veggie turkey sandwiches and watched Criminal Minds while playing more iphone scrabble.  Pure bliss.  I finally got up and decided to leave the house and go do my kitty job.  I am so amazing that I managed to drive all the way across the city only to realize that I left the key at home.  Blargh.  Of course the Eagles game had just let out and I forgot all about it and headed into traffic hell by trying to be slick and take a route I wasn't sure of, which turned out to be a bad idea that included sort of getting lost for a hot second.  My phone also died since I drained the battery playing games all day.  That'll learn me to rush out of the house.  I got home, grabbed the keys and headed back out to visit the kitties.  On the way home I stopped at Whole Foods to make my trip seem worth it.  I scored a Tofurky for 1/2 off so yeah, that was nice.  Over three hours after I gave up my laziness I finally arrived home for more lazy.  Yes, sweet.  We watched Dexter and I ate some of every leftover in the house.  Now I feel barfy and am waiting for Venture Bros to come on so I can retire to bed for more lazy.

Today's dress is one from the vault.  I think it might even be from the days of high school.  It was the first one I grabbed and I wanted to do something fun with my hair to go with the length of the dress, sort of hippieish.  My friend Danni was visiting a few months ago and she had  a lone feather sticking in her hair.  It looked super cute so I kept it in mind the next time I visited the craft store. I picked up a package of speckly feathers to use for a hair accessory and maybe for some earrings if I can figure out the semantics of it all.  I figured if I was wearing a high school era dress I'd wear some big clunky shoes.  I was really happy with today's outfit and might consider adding more long dresses to my collection, not that I need anymore dresses or anything.

Oh boo, Venture Bros was a rerun.
