day three hundred hundred fifty-one.

Day Three Hundred Fifty-one Sunday 8/15/10
Dress:  Black Sweater Dress
Purchased From:  Mishel's clothing swap
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2010
Price: $Free
Accessories:  Black and white striped socks, hunter wellies
Hair and Makeup: Mostly no makeup and then a tiny bit of face stuff later, down and dried naturally
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Michael commented on how short the "dress" was.

So in retrospect I'm thinking this bad boy is simply a long sweater.  Oops.  I was in a really weird, saddish, mood all day so when I put this on I was simply thinking, it's cooler outside today and this is sweater material.  I did the math and pulled it over my head.  I only left the house twice and one of the times my coat covered me so it worked out just fine but I swear somehow this thing shrunk as the day progressed.  It was a little rainy so when I left the house I wore it with my wellies.  Mostly I just sat on the couch like a giant waste of space all day.  Again, I don't know what was wrong with me. I just felt eh, blah, blech.  Michael went on a motorcycle ride and I made myself a fancy omelet of asparagus, mushrooms, artichokes, tomatoes and asiago and swiss cheese.  I ate it with rye toast and tofurky sausage and immediately felt disgusting.  I think that added to my couchiness.  He came home and we walked to Primo so he could get a hoagie.  We came home and I sat on the couch more.  I had planned to go to Copa to see friends and drink drinks but I just couldn't get myself to go.  Dumb and weird.  The day dragged on and I accomplished nothing.  At one point Michael and I both decided we wanted dessert and I found a gelato place opened in the Piazza, near our house.  Yay! This made me happy.  We tried several flavors and were both enamored with the sea salt flavor.  Michael paired his with the chocolate peanut butter flavor and I fat kidded it up with three flavors of chocolate, hazelnut and sea salt.  It was amazing.  I'm beyond excited that a gelato place has opened near our house.  I just wish that new gym would hurry up and open so I can counteract the gelato madness.  We came home and I forced myself to work on my final project for school and then we watched True Blood and Entourage and went to bed.  What a waste of a day.  I suck sometimes.

Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Kristin said "cute dress"

I started school tonight and our assignment was to read 90 pages of the text Negotiating With the Dead A Writer on Writing by Margaret Atwood so this is going to be short because I'm only halfway done at this point and it's 1:14AM and I don't know how much time I'll have to do it tomorrow.  I am terrified right now.  I'm terrified that I let my brain marinate in lazy for too long and that I haven't read even a quarter of the books I should have read by now and that I'm really not actually that smart, I'm just good at pretending I know what people are talking about.  I'm going to community college and I'm terrified.  That either says that I am way too snobby for my own good or way too dumb and have a lot of catching up to do.  Damn you Harry Potter, I blame you.

Oh and I have to hand in a first draft of something to be workshopped this Thursday.  So yeah, that left me scouring my hard drive for something, which led to some sadness at the realization that I haven't written much since 2003 and what I wrote then was pretty much a bunch of whiny, drivel filled shit. Fun.  So far this Margaret Atwood text is pretty awesome though, so I got that going for me, which is nice.  She's one of the many authors I always meant to read. Yup.

I bought this dress this morning.  I had an early cat job and took Michael to work so I stayed in yesterday's dress, which had turned into last night's sleepy time clothes.  I wasn't in the mood to retry the same dresses that gave me grief yesterday so I went thrifting to cheer up a bit.  It worked.  I love the colors, cut, style, etc. about this dress.  It's a Roxy dress so it was probably a little pricey in its first store.  I got it for $4.95.  Take that.  They called for rain so I went with my wellies and threw on a cardigan since this dress is a little boobyesque.  I didn't want to appear slutty for my first day of class so it was buttoned before class started.

Ok, enough procrastinating.  I'm going to try not to let this class affect my blog at all. I want to write about it in detail.  I hope I have enough time.  Being lazy is so much easier.

day one hundred eighty-nine.

Day One Hundred Eighty-nine 3/6/10
Dress: Striped Sweater Dress
Purchased From: Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Winter 2010
Price: $3.95
Accessories: Red cardigan, black tights, black extra high top sneakers, red socks
Hair and Makeup: braids, some down, mess, usual makeup with red lipstick
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: A client said I looked like a leprechaun in my green coat.  She was drunk.
Day:

I only wore this dress to work, which is sort of funny since it's not exactly the most work appropriate for dog walking but whatever.  It was comfy but a little tight and though my diet is slowly working this dress would be better off if I shed another ten pounds, specifically belly weight.  Clearly I should've sucked in a little harder for this picture.   It was dry enough yesterday that I could wear what are quite possibly my favorite shoes ever.  I wore them so much they have holes in the bottom of them. I got them for like $10 years ago and I wish I'd bought ten pairs.  They're extra high black on black sneakers with zippers on the sides for easy access.  They used to have cute side buckles but they broke so I cut them off.   After working I stopped at Circle Thrift and got three new dresses.  I stood in line for the dressing room forever.  Some girl was prancing around barefoot and trying on the whole store.  Ladies, if you're not super fast at changing don't take four hundred items into the dressing room with you at a thrift store with one dressing room.  She finally emerged and I tried on my stash.  I held a silver long vintage gown but alas it was too small for me.  Grr.  I probably should've bought it anyway and resold it but I already have too many tiny cute vintage dresses taunting me from my dress rack. I certainly don't need more.  I picked up Michael from the train and we headed home for primer coat number two.  I changed into my paint clothes again and we got going.  Several hours later we stopped, I made us sandwiches and we ate and fell asleep on the couch.  So exciting for a Friday night!

Price: $14.99
Accessories:
Hair and Makeup: fancy pants hair by Salon Blush , usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Michael

Day:

I love this dress.  It was one of the few things that made me happy today.  I have wanted it for months but didn't want to pay full price.  The stars aligned and I found it on the clearance rack last week.  My hair stayed in all night.  I am impressed.

Valentine's Day turned out to be an epic fail because we tried our hand at making ravioli.  Four hours later we had a mess of dinner on our plates.  I'm too exhausted to go into detail right now so I'll save that story for tomorrow.  We're going to have a Valentine's Day redo date night to make up for this stupid day.   We did find out that our friends Bill and Marissa got engaged today so that restored my faith in the day.  Congrats!

Hair and Makeup:  Half beehive, half down and curled since my back is full of tape and allergy patches, silver eyeshadow and lots of makeup.

Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  Michael commented on my beehive

Day:

Our coffee maker broke this morning so my day started with a mini-fit.  Ugh. I don't think I order the tiny little piece we need so it might be time for a new one.  Ugh.  I took Michael to work and then headed around the corner to the dermatologist for my allergy patch test.  There are now three giant strips of possible allergens on my upper back that itch and burn a bit, clearly signs that I am allergic to some crap.  Fun.  I worked and then ran to the Super Thrift in search of bad holiday sweaters for tomorrow and came home with two pretty awesome  ones I must say.  I also managed to buy several more dresses.  I am clearly addicted.  We are now headed out for the 700 awards and I am fully gussied.  I did my first beehive and it came out pretty swell.  Hopefully I'll get some better pictures later but those will have to wait until tomorrow.

day eighty-five.

Day Eighty-five 11/21/2009
Dress: Black and Red Zipper Sweater Dress
Purchased From: Target
Year or Era Purchased:  Fall 2008

Price: $35? Or it might have been on sale.  I don't remember.
Accessories: Black Boots and tights, and later a red plaid hat
Hair and Makeup: Down and not brushed with headband, usual makeup with extra black eyeliner.

Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Michael, Jody on the dress. I think Spano said he liked the hat.

Day:

I'm starting this sober but I'm going to end it after a few drinks.  Yup.

Today's dress is what I like to call my super hero or science fiction dress.  It makes me feel like I have powers or that I can leap buildings or fly a spacecraft.  It was one of the special designers featured at target, Jonathan Saunders.  I remember ogling it for a long time before finally purchasing it.

I totally slept in like a big jerk.  Oh well.  I got up and made coffee and threw in a load of laundry before heading out to drop off a large portion of our closet to Circle Thrift.   I bought two new dresses, a blue metal canister and a cute shelf for $13. Nice.  I also saw this crazy ham holder that I was tempted to buy just for the box:

I then visited a kitty for work purposes and picked up four miniature dachshunds so I could bring them home and take care of them for a week.  I thought this would be a quick process but I could not break down the three crates to bring with me.  I finally succeeded after a lot of cursing and finger crushing.  I hate when metal tries to defeat me.  I finally got the four dogs and all of their gear into the car and got home.  It feels like my childhood all over again :) So far one of them is kind of a meanie to the kitties so I will have to separate the species for a bit.  Hopefully peace will be in everyone's future.

I came home and Rica was here to commandeer a bunch of music from my library.  We were all starving having not eaten anything so we headed to Honeys Sit n' Eat for a late lunch/early dinner.  We committed gluttony something fierce.  I even brought half of my food home but it still hurt horribly.   I suppose it doesn't help that I ate more of it a few hours later while watching Top Chef.  Yeah, my favorite dude Kevin is still in it!  I didn't want to sit around the house all night so we're going to meet up with some friends at Kung Fu Necktie for a drink.

Okay I just got home but I only had one beer so sorry no fun drunky blogs.  Now I'm having some red wine.  I wanted to drink red wine at the bar but they were out (dumb) and the jerky bartender was totally bitchy about it.  I asked what kind of red wine they had and she sort of rolled her eyes and slurred, "I don't know, merlot." Like I was asking some crazy outlandish question of a bartender.  She half heartedly searched for it and then told me they didn't have any.  I opted for a beer and paid, thinking I was paying for Michael's drink too like a nice wife.  I paid the $10 she asked for and tipped $2 even though I hated her.  Michael looked at me like I was crazy for tipping $2 so I lipped him up with a duh, you tip $1 per drink.  It turns out the bartender had already charged him for his drink and he had already tipped.  What a dumbass.  Wow, good job! I hate you stupid bartender.  Your hair is rad but I hate everything else about you.  Ugh.  We only stayed for one drink so I opened a bottle of Pinot Noir when we got home. I liked it because it was called Pinot Evil.  Cute.  I wasn't thrilled to realize it was a twist off cap though.  Oh wells. Time for bed.

Day Fifty-two.

Day Fifty-two 10/19/2009

Dress: Black Sweater Dress
Purchased From: Circle Thrift
Year or Era Purchased: Winter 2008

Accessories: "I'm in the Doghouse" earrings, grey tights, black boots, cream colored knit hat.

Day:

When I got dressed this morning I knew I was going to a show tonight and normally that wouldn't be an issue, I'd just change later if I didn't like my outfit but today I had to commit so I changed a few times until I settled upon the sweater dress since I find it both comfortable and stylish. The dress was thrifted and it's a pretty recent H&M piece that I'm pretty sure falls into the category of "thank you person who donates her wardrobe to Circle Thrift after one season and happens to be my size and have similar taste." It was a beautiful day today and finally felt like Fall, which happens to be my favorite season so I was pretty excited. I paired my dress with lighter tights for a contrast and my favorite winter hat since it was still a little nippy. I also wore my favorite velvet coat that I like to refer to as my pirate coat since it had lining other side of it, that is until most of them fell off. I still have all of them but have not found the correct motivation/free time period to sew them back on. I worked today and everything went swimmingly since dogs also really dig this time year. After work I ran to Jomar to buy fabric for my Halloween costume and then to Target for some cupboard containers to continue in my GET THE HELL OUT OF MY HOUSE YOU GROSS MOTH LARVAE project. I will definitely need to go to Ikea to supplement this project but it will be done. I also picked up some Pantry Pest traps from Essene to continue the eradication. Part of me hates using them, not because I feel bad for the gross little beasts but because I have to see them stuck to the sides. Gross.

After schlepping all the bags inside I got ready to go out. I put on some makeup and my "I'm in the dog house" earrings that are from an amazing store in Montreal called Bang On. They have awesome kitschy accessories and a gazillion iron ons and blank shirts/hoodies/dresses/etc. that you can choose to iron them onto. Some of my favorite clothing is from there. Sadly the shirtdress I got from there is less of a dress and more of a shirt on me so it probably won't make it onto this blog. Michael and I went to The Troc to see The Gaslight Anthem and they were really wonderful live. I first heard them on Sirius a few years ago and because satellite radio actually lists the artist and song I automatically knew the name of my new band obsession. I pulled up to my destination when the song was still playing and refused to exit the car until the song ended. It's rare these days that new bands evoke that feeling in me. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of the new music out there and thanks to Sirius I'm no longer in a rut and actually hear new bands and like a lot of them but this one just felt awesome. I had no clue they were so big and we tried to go see them last year but it was sold out, which I found out when I tried to pay to go in and the door girl looked at me like I was crazy. Whatevs.

After the show we came home to watch the best ninth inning ever. Woot. Now I'm going to bed with some serious exhaustion and hurty in the back syndrome because I am old and going to shows hurts my old lady body anymore. So sad.
