day three hundred hundred forty-nine.

Day Three Hundred Forty-nine Friday 8/13/10
Dress:  Brownish Pink Sweater Dress
Purchased From: Becky's from the clothing swap
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2010
Price: $FREE
Accessories:  Red flats,Kurt Halsey bird necklace
Hair and Makeup: Pulled back into a bun for some of the day, top in a bun and the rest curled for the evening, usual makeup with lots of grey eyesshadow
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:

Holy nice day Batman! I took advantage of it and wore this sweater fabric dress.  My friend Becky brought it to the clothing swap and thought I'd like it.  She was right.  I woke up late and meandered around, did some dishes and got ready to go work. My hair is wicked dirty right now so I just put it up in a bun to avoid it.  I slapped on some makeup and headed out to work.  I had a slow day so I used the late afternoon to take myself on a little used bookstore/thrift store tour.  I went to Brickbat Books, Headhouse Books, (which is apparently not a used bookstore) Germ Books, Circle Thrift and Super Thrift.  It was a real whirlwind.  Ok, not really.  I was kind of super disappointed in the bookstores.  I got a copy of The Great Gatsby at Brickbat since I've never read it. I know, blasphemous. I'm on it.  Germ was awesome but it's definitely more for the sci-fi/conspiracy theory nerds of the world.  I think the Fairmount used bookstore remains my favorite.  I'll have to make a visit this week.  I did score two dresses at Circle Thrift, and two scarves and a retro picnic basket at Super Thrift.  Nice.  After my crazy little tour I came home and read a little, the fourth book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.  It's summer damn it.  I've been reading lots of real literature short stories for class so I don't feel that bad for indulging.  I took a mini nap and then Michael and I headed to Bar Ferdinand for some tapas and drinks.  We totally over ordered and got our leftovers wrapped up. Unfortunately I left them on the table and in the two minutes it took me to come to this realization they had thrown them away.  D'oh. They were very sweet and offered to remake the food.  Since I'm not a total asshole I declined and we headed home.  The meal was lovely so I really can't complain too much.  I love date nights.

day three hundred hundred forty-six.

Day Three Hundred Forty-six Tuesday 8/10/10
Dress:  Brown Multi Colored Daisy Dress
Purchased From: Super Thrift
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2010
Price: $3.95
Accessories:  Brown knee highs, black on black chucks, turquoise bird barrette
Hair and Makeup: Two mini buns and the rest down and curled a bit, usual makeup with a "gorgeous gold" MAC eyeshadow
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Michael liked my dress, a friend of mine from class liked my shoes

I love this dress.  I'm a sucker for daisies and it's super easy and comfortable. It was again hot as nards today, well four degrees cooler than yesterday's nards, but still hot.  Days like these I wish I didn't have so much hair.  Even pulling it back is gross and sweaty.  Woe is me.  I'm not cutting it or anything, I'm still super into the length and versatility.  I just like to complain.  I found my chucks when I was cleaning the other day so I'm currently crushing on them combined with knee socks.  Speaking of footwear I've been noticing that combat boots are in style for this coming season.  This means I'm officially old because styles that were popular when I was a teenager are once again in style.  Blargh.  I guess that makes me happy and I'll be able to replenish my boot supply to wear for the next several years, after fashion has moved on.  I'll always be a sucker for boots.  I guess I'm hanging out with a tangent right now.  Sorry.

On to the day then.  It's my friend Sue's birthday and because of school and work I was unable to see her.  Boo. We managed an hour long conversation and will have dinner tomorrow night but still.   I had to start my day early, doing homework.  I had to complete a dialogue piece that was assigned yesterday.  Again, my professor is all about assigning stuff on a Monday when the syllabus says everything will be due on a Monday, with a weekend to work on it.  Ugh.  I feel like I'm regressing severely in this class from last class.  I love my professor as a person but I'm having a lot of trouble advancing as a writer.  We have conferences on Thursday so I'll have to discuss it with her, among other things.

After finishing, late, I started work and worked all day. I ate a peach only since I was running so late and thought I'd pass out if I didn't get food before class so I stopped at Essene for some hot bar food.  They're really disappointing me as of late.  The food is bleh and the prices are redunkulous.  Five dollars for four mushrooms, four small pieces of seitan, a quarter cup of rice and  one piece of broccoli.  I'm over it.  I got to class early and ate in the classroom while I did my reading.  Class was okay. I got annoyed but I won't go into it.  After class I came home and made pierogies, veggie kielbasa, beans and sliced tomato for dinner. It was yum.

Again I have to end this with sad doggie news. I found out today that one of my clients, Henry the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, passed away suddenly of a heart attack.  I've been walking him for something like four or five years now and am heartbroken to hear this.  He recently started coughing, a symptom of heart disease.  Penn misdiagnosed him with allergies or a lung issue.  This saddens me so much because his owner was proactive and extremely mindful of her animals, giving them the best possible care.  You will be missed greatly HenHen.

day three hundred and nine.

Day Three Hundred Eight Sunday  7/4/10
Dress:  Pink and Brown Floral Dress
Purchased From:  Circle Thrift Clothing Swap
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $FREE

Accessories:  Black flats, big sunglasses
Hair and Makeup: Down and wavy, usual makeup with some pink frosty eyeshadow
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Kevin said my dress looked like a 70's couch, Laura commented on how long my hair is and uh, I think that was it, I can't remember.

It was pretty hot but this dress is kind of flowy so I went with it.  Sunday was fun.  We slept in, had a nice breakfast of omelets and did some other stuff I can't remember.  Around four we headed out to the burbs to our friend, Mike's Mom's house for her annual fourth of July party that always involves massive amounts of vegetarian tamales and tables of food.  Amazing. We hung out for a while, drank beers, played cornhole and washers and then headed home around 10:30.  We then got stuck in a massive traffic jam because I brilliantly decided to get off at the Girard exit and take Girard back to Fishtown.  Poor decision.  We sat on the hilly exit for over half an hour because traffic was way worse there than on 76.  I always choose the wrong line at the grocery store and the wrong traffic pattern.  Finally wet got home close to Midnight.  Fail.

day three hundred and seven.

Three Hundred Seven Friday 7/2/10
Dress:  Brown Plaid/Argyle Print Vintage Dress
Purchased From:  Circle Thrift Clothing Swap
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: FREE!
Accessories:   Black flats, black sunglasses
Hair and Makeup: Double buns, I don't know if I even wore any makeup during the day, usual makeup later
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Hmmm, I can't remember.  I think I got a compliment on the dress but I can't remember.  Sean commented/questioned that I was still wearing dresses/blogging about them.

I think I woke up at 11:50 on Friday.  I was absolutely exhausted from staying up so late on Wednesday night. I hurriedly got dressed and didn't have much rhyme or reason for choosing this dress.  I think it was on top of the pile. I  realized I had no time for food and got to work. It wasn't a terribly busy day, thankfully.  I finished work and said hello to Sean, Spano and Michael at Kraftwork.  The specials and menu weren't floating my boat so I went home and ate a bagel.  Michael came home and hung out a bit before heading out to see Toy Story 3.  It was an adventure of annoyance.  We attempted a viewing at the Riverview as we've admitted defeat in the movie going department and figured if our experience was going to suck we'd at least be close to home.  Wrong.  The showing we chose was closed captioned, so yeah sub titled, in English.  To quote Christian Bale, it would be "fucking dis tract ting." So we chose to drive over the bridge and attempt a viewing at the Loews Cherry Hill theater. Mistake. We sat all the way in the back and thought we were in the clear until the movie had actually started and four annoying, loud, disrespectful teenagers came plodding up the stairs like fat donkeys.  They flopped down in the seats next to us and began speaking to each other, using their cell phones to speak, text and otherwise light up the area around us, eat popcorn like a ravenous cartoon character and move around like fleas on a dog.  Assholes.  I finally snapped and yelled at them to please, please, please stop talking.  Their response, "shut up."  Exactly assholes! Michael and I have officially given up on movies unless they're matinees or at the Ritz.  I hate everyone.  We would have loved the movie so much more had we not been subjected to these stupid patrons.  I think movie theaters need to start enforcing no talking, cell phones, etc. with security that patrols the theater. I think it's come that.  Blargh.  After our movie we headed back to Philly and indulged in veggie wings, chips and guac and a pitcher of margaritas at El Camino Real.  The tequila definitely helped soothe away our anger.

day two hundred sixty-eight.

That's Maddy, I love that mouth.

Day Two Hundred Sixty-eight Sunday 5/23/10
Dress: Brown Cotton Sun Dress
Purchased From:  Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $4.95

Accessories: Black hoodie, blue knee socks, black sneaker boots
Hair and Makeup: Two buns with bangs pinned back, usual makeup with dark green eyeshadow and mauve lipstick
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Hmmm, I think Michael said something nice but I can't remember.

This dress is nothing spectacular but I only wore it for a few hours since I cleaned in my sweaty p's and didn't put it on until 5PM.  Sunday was sent cleaning for something like five or six hours.  We finally finished and headed home so we'd have plenty of time to watch Lost and all the special shows surrounding it. Once home we realized that the recap show was two hours so I took some time to do some homework, writing a story based on an improved outline we'd created in class.  It was frustrating as hell and I only got through half of it before giving up and giving in to Lost.

I'm still processing the finale.  At first I didn't like it, then today I started liking it more and now after a conversation with my roommate I have decided again that I didn't like it and I feel that it was a total cop out.  That being said, I am still happy I watched it for six years and have every intention of re-watching it at least one more time in its entirety.  I can't say that about many television shows.  I racked my brain last night to think of the a good finale and remembered the best finale I've ever seen- Six Feet Under.

day two hundred sixty-two.

Day Two Hundred Sixty-two Monday 5/17/10
Dress: Brown and Blue Striped Sweater Tank Dress
Purchased From:  Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $4.95

Accessories: Purple argyle knee socks, green hunter wellies, grey cardigan
Hair and Makeup: Partially  half up and some down then later all down with big barrel curling iron curls, usual makeup with some mauve lipstick
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Kristin said "cute dress"

I started school tonight and our assignment was to read 90 pages of the text Negotiating With the Dead A Writer on Writing by Margaret Atwood so this is going to be short because I'm only halfway done at this point and it's 1:14AM and I don't know how much time I'll have to do it tomorrow.  I am terrified right now.  I'm terrified that I let my brain marinate in lazy for too long and that I haven't read even a quarter of the books I should have read by now and that I'm really not actually that smart, I'm just good at pretending I know what people are talking about.  I'm going to community college and I'm terrified.  That either says that I am way too snobby for my own good or way too dumb and have a lot of catching up to do.  Damn you Harry Potter, I blame you.

Oh and I have to hand in a first draft of something to be workshopped this Thursday.  So yeah, that left me scouring my hard drive for something, which led to some sadness at the realization that I haven't written much since 2003 and what I wrote then was pretty much a bunch of whiny, drivel filled shit. Fun.  So far this Margaret Atwood text is pretty awesome though, so I got that going for me, which is nice.  She's one of the many authors I always meant to read. Yup.

I bought this dress this morning.  I had an early cat job and took Michael to work so I stayed in yesterday's dress, which had turned into last night's sleepy time clothes.  I wasn't in the mood to retry the same dresses that gave me grief yesterday so I went thrifting to cheer up a bit.  It worked.  I love the colors, cut, style, etc. about this dress.  It's a Roxy dress so it was probably a little pricey in its first store.  I got it for $4.95.  Take that.  They called for rain so I went with my wellies and threw on a cardigan since this dress is a little boobyesque.  I didn't want to appear slutty for my first day of class so it was buttoned before class started.

Ok, enough procrastinating.  I'm going to try not to let this class affect my blog at all. I want to write about it in detail.  I hope I have enough time.  Being lazy is so much easier.

day two hundred fifty-seven.

Day Two Hundred Fifty-seven Wednesday 5/12/10
Dress:  Purplish brown Lace Dress
Purchased From:  Somewhere in a mall, probably the King of Prussia Mall
Year or Era Purchased: 1997-1998 sometime
Price: $30ish (I really have no clue on this)

Accessories: Cool button ring from Marilla1918, brown patterned tights, green hunter wellies
Hair and Makeup: Down and curled a bit, usual makeup with a little extra eye makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: I believe one of Michael's quotes was "You look like you're going to whore island" but he said it in a nice way, really.  A few dress compliments and Jen said "holy boobs"

Wednesday was jam packed, which is why it took so long to update for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as I'm doing now.  I think I'm still recovering.   Since I knew we had plans late in the evening to attend goth night at Shampoo I chose one of my dresses from back in the day when I used to do that almost weekly.  I bought this dress at some mall store I think.  I would bet anything I was shopping with Heather when I bought it.  I wish I could remember how much it was and from which store it was purchased but I don't. I have an actual photograph from an actual point and shoot camera that I actually took to a store to have printed of me wearing this dress so you know it's old.  And I suppose that makes me old too. Hrmpf.  Buuut it does still fit and I do still love it so old schmold.   The weather once again called for rain so I wore my galoshes and I think that helped even out this look a little and added a nice contrast.  I did my hair a little fancy, which fell pretty much immediately but once brushed out later in the day it was fine.  Stupid humidity. I also paired it with my new fun ring.  This time I got a picture of it.

So I spent my day working and then headed to King of Prussia to meet up with one of my oldest friends, Jen.  We met at the Cheesecake Factory to have dinner and catch up.  We've been friends for something like 28 or 29 years.  Again with old.  Ugh.  Anyway we enjoyed dinner and then really enjoyed a split dessert.  We tried to walk off some of the calories through shopping/mall walking but I don't know that we even put a dent in our calorie intake.  I was very good and only bought a new compact at MAC and some new eye shadow primer since I one hundred percent realized I'm allergic to the Urban Decay Primer.  I was shown three non-silicone based primers at Sephora and went with the Kat Von D brand since it was cheapest and the sales guy told me it worked just as good.  So far so good, it's holding the eye makeup up remarkably well and I"m not breaking out into eczema bumps.  Rad.

Jen and I parted ways and I headed home to meet up with Michael and head to Shampoo to celebrate his cousin Michelle's 30th birthday, and celebrate we did.  I drank and danced my face off and kept repeating "I'm having the most fun."  We left at 2 when Michael pretty much had to drag me out of there.  Parts of the night are a little hazy.  Oops.  There's just something in the air there.

Boring Monday workday but I did like my outfit.  I love jumpers, overalls, etc.  My Mom dressed me in a lot of them growing up and my love for them carried over into my adulthood.  It rained like crazy in the morning so I wore my wellies, any excuse to wear them really.

Like I said before it was a boring day.  I worked, went to Whole Foods, picked up Michael from work, came home and made a Vegetarian Chipotle Chicken Tortilla soup that I concocted from several recipes on epicurious.com, watched some television and headed to bed. Soooooo exciting!!!!

Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Several dress/blog comments, Michael liked my boots

Day:

This dress is just meh.  I didn't try it at the dressing roomless thrift store and that's fine.  I was able to gauge that it wouldn't flatter or falter me.  It's brown and cotton and good for a weekend of lounging or working inside.  I paired it with a boatload of accessories to spruce it up.

I heard it was a nice day today.  The closest thing I got to fresh air was opening the back door to taunt the cats, knowing they wouldn't step foot onto wet cement.  I spent the day cooking and cleaning, way to be stereotypical Abby.  I made us a nice breakfast of veggie bacon and eggs and fruit, english muffins, and mashed potato pancakes.    Since I spent most of my calories on breakfast I spent the whole rest of the day avoiding food by cleaning our bedroom.  I think this is the third time I've attempted this feat in 177 days.   Eventually when our third floor is complete and I have triple the space I'll find a place for everything and put it there.  If it doesn't fit I will acquit, wait what, I mean I'll donate it.  The cleaning task is not yet complete even after five solid hours.  I still have to tackle my vanity, one corner and all dresser tops.  Should be a real hoot! I now have three large bags of socks, each bag denoting color: black, white or light and patterned.  I am so excited about matching them all!  I played the put stuff on while I'm cleaning game which is why so many accessories today. Since we ate a big breakfast for lunch we ate a small breakfast for dinner just to be even cooler.  We ate cereal and veggie bacon and watched Archer. Now I must go sleep since early rising is in order.

day one hundred sixty-five.

red eye correction equals crazy eyes. boo.

Day One Hundred Sixty-five 2/9/10
Dress: Brown Turtleneck/Polka Dot Skirt Dress

Purchased From: Circle Thrift

Accessories:  jeans, hunter wellies, yellow cardigan, pink hat, green neckerchief
Hair and Makeup: down and slightly curled, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: A client liked my hair, a stranger liked my boots
Day:

It's snowing again.  Crazy.  Our backyard is going to be engulfed.  I hope my white trash backyard neighbor's already mostly destroyed canopy thing finally caves in totally so I don't have to look at it anymore.  I suppose the squirrels do enjoy using it though.  I've already had three cancellations for tomorrow so that rules.  I am hoping for more.  I hate driving and trying to park when there's several feet of snow on the ground.  Ugh.  It will at least be a short day.  I plan to make a chocolate stout cake tomorrow with my extra time.  It will be my first from scratch cake.  I might also make this cauliflower soup vegetarianized.   Winter/snowstorm cooking is the best.  I do try to embrace this season even though I mostly hate it.

This dress is fun in that I sort of felt like I was living on the edge by wearing a shirt and skirt combo.  I know that's nerdy.  I got it half off at Circle Thrift because it was the color tag of the week.  It's probably a little to young for me but I haven't fully accepted my age yet so that's fine.  I went with all Autumnal colors today.  It was my silent protest against winter.

The day was pretty uneventful.  I worked a long day in the snow, trudging around and driving cautiously.  After work I went to Target for valentine's and slippers for Michael and ingredients for my cake.  The slippers were too damn small for Michael.  Good thing Target has an entire wall of flip flops right now but only eight pairs of men's and zero pairs of women's slippers in stock right now, while there's 20+inches of snow melting and 20+ inches of snow coming!  Fucking hell these buyers/stockers/merchandisers are nuts.  It's too soon, too soon.

I made smart dogs and mac n' cheese for dinner and we watched Lost.  Rob McElhenney from Always Sunny was in it.  That made MIchael really excited.  I guess I should go to bed now since I will most likely have to venture outside in this mess tomorrow.  Ugh. Winter, I am over you.

Day:

Again I find myself just wanting to crawl into bed and avoid writing this blog.  It has been a lovely day I have to say and I'd like to go laze about until I fall into an abyss of sleepytime. Tomorrow we must arise and drive to Landsdale for breakfast with friends.

The dress I wore today was one of my clothing swap finds from this past Thursday.  It's super comfortable and I since I like to pair strapless dresses with undershirts I did so with my awesome octopus shirt so the octopus would be showcased perfectly.  The shirt was purchased at my friend Sam's store, The Point.  I really like this dress and I"m so glad I went to the swap and made it my own.

I spent the day being lazy and lounging, made some pancakes and then decorated for Christmas.  It was nice and exactly what I wanted.  Michael and I then watched Marley & Me and went to the Sidecar Bar for dinner and so I could get a dark smokey beer like I've been craving, so not like me, weird.  I got a Old Engine Oil and ate some truffle mashed potatoes and a crispy goat cheese salad.  Dinner was super yum, as was the beer.  I guess we had a little unintended date night, cute.  Now it's time to power up with sleep for tomorrow's crazy buffet breakfast.  Weekend of gluttony equals fabulous.
