day two hundred eighty-nine.

Day Two Hundred Eighty-nine Monday  6/14/10
Dress: Liberty of London Floral Chemise
Purchased From:  Target
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $12.58

Accessories: Black flats, at times but not pictured, a light green cardigan
Hair and Makeup: Three low bun twists with some front tendrils that did not so much photograph well, usual makeup with some pink frosty eyeshadow that I thought better of after applying but was too lazy to do over.
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  Michael was a big fan of this dress, a guy that works at a building I go to daily said I should be a spy because I always look different.  I'd be a terrible spy.

This dress is an example of a dress I loved but then hated every single photograph I attempted in it.  Such is life.  I also should have removed my giant sunglasses and the one picture I did my hair was a hot mess of flyaways.  Oh well, I felt cute so whatevs.  I got this gem from the clearance rack at Target on Friday.  It's not an actual dress I guess sine it's marked "chemise" on the tag, a fancy way of saying slip or undergarment.  I wore a slip underneath of it, see it peeking out unbeknownst to me, to prove I have a shred of modesty.  I was a really big fan of most of the Liberty of London products at target, especially the dresses, but not many of them came through once in the dressing room- ill fitting indeed.

Monday was good, it was hot but I tolerated it, mostly because this dress is nice and cool.  I spent the day working, stealing a few moments in a park doing homework and then went to class.  We're still on poetry and we discussed meter, something I'm not very fond of but I still gave it my full attention and might appreciate it a fraction more than the day before.

I came home and made ravioli, salads and sautéed mushrooms.  Yum.  We watched some television and I forced Michael and Steve (ok, Steve was a willing participant) to watch half an episode of Toddlers and Tiaras.  What a hot mess of a show.  I was specifically obsessed with this mini Fairuza Balk demon child, enjoy:

If I was an amputee I guess I'd look like this.

Day Two Hundred Seventy-one Wednesday 5/26/10
Dress: Aqua Baby Doll Sun Dress
Purchased From:  Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $3.95

Accessories: I actually didn't wear the socks pictured- just black vinyl shoes
Hair and Makeup: Two log pigtails, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:

Holy hot in May! Good thing I got this dress last week at Thrift Fair.  I wore these socks for a whole fifteen minutes  but it was too damn hot to keep them on!  I spent the day working lots and sweating lots.  After work I went thrifting for a hot second at Thrift Fair and Circle Thrift and got four dresses.  Michael and I shared a flight at Kraftwork- I had a Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout (amazing!) and a Liefman's Kriek.  Nothing like 8oz. of beer to get you tipsy!  We came home and I made us frittatas and we watched some television.  It was a lovely night.

Day:

Ugh.  Sorry.

So I got word from my brother that my sister-in-law, his wife, was released from the hospital today but without a full diagnosis.  That's no fun.  Hopefully they find out more information soon.  Seeing him scared made me really sad.   I'm still exhausted and posting both yesterday and todays entries at the same time because lately time isn't something I've had to spare.  Between working, family stuff, shower prep and house renovations I am beyond exhausted. I spent the beginning of the week with the worst stiff neck ever.  I'm not so good with stress, according to my friend and massage therapist, Rica, I carry it all in my neck and shoulders.  Awesome.  Next week I register for my summer and fall classes.  That should add nicely to my stress.  I'm looking at Creative Writing, Fiction, Scriptwriting and Poetry.  Not too shabby.  Let's see if I can still construct non blog sentiments from these fingertips.  I hope to have more interesting updates in a few days.  Hopefully the shower goes well and fabulous blog worthy photographs will be aplenty.

I got this dress yesterday when I did a little thrift store therapy.  I stopped at Circle Thrift on my way home and got five dresses.  One of which was this simple navy blue knit baby doll dress.  I knew I'd be running around like crazy (and sort of getting lost in South Philly parking lots with Rica but I'll have to explain all that later) so I wanted to be comfortable.  It was cold again and they predicted rain but I've realized that the weatherjerks have been wrong all week so I don't know why I bother.  Oh well, I wore my wellies to not a drop of rain.  I purposely stepped in tiny puddles.  I dug out my winter coat and wore a hat for warmth.  Blargh.  The other dresses I scored included a vintage Saks Fifth Avenue dress and a few other casual dresses. I was super stoked on the Saks dress.  It's weird and long and black with a bright floral pattern.  It has long sleeves so I'll have to wear it fast. Wee.  I'm off to bed for super early wake up times and a very busy day.

Comments/Compliments/Complaints:

Today was all about the third floor.  It's looking pretty and making me happy even though my back hurts like woah.  I slept in until almost 11, but let's face it folks that's really 10AM since the clocks were forced ahead one hour last night so don't go judging me too much.  I woke up and made coffee and walked the doggies before joining Michael on the third floor for some perimeter sanding.  We took a sandwich/Bill break since Bill is back for a week visiting.  Michael then went and picked up the floor sander and we headed back to the third floor for more sanding/vacuuming, and carpet staple removing. Fun!   I totally wore this dress while doing all of this.  It's super comfortable and easy to wear.  I did wear a t-shirt over top of it for part of is so I didn't get it all dirty but that was abandoned on the second work session.  We finished our sanding for the day and while Michael returned the sander I shopped at Target.  I had to be good because Michael was waiting.  I did purchase myself a fabulous bubble umbrella and I've decided it's quite possibly one of the greatest inventions ever.  Tonight I used it to walk two dogs and play with my phone simultaneously all while staying dry.  Awesome.   I did see a few dresses I might want so maybe I'll go back this week.  We'll see.  What I really wanted was this gorgeous blueish green rain coat but they didn't have it in my size. Oh well.  I'm all about the rain gear since it's been raining for almost 48 hours straight.   The rest of the night was spent eating soup and salads, catching up on the dvr and playing with doggies.  We are quite hurty from a long day of working.  Now I'll take a hot ass shower and relax my muscles before some snuggle time while we watch The Pacific.  Not too shabby.

day one hundred eleven.

Day One Hundred Eleven 12/17/2009
Dress: Pink Babydoll Dress

Purchased From:  H&M
Year or Era Purchased:  Summer 2007
Price: $25 or $30? I can't remember exactly.
Accessories: Jeans, black cardigan, sneaker snow boots, giant white fake fur hat, deer necklace

Hair and Makeup:  down and gross, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  Lots of hat compliments

Day:

It was another early day and it was cold. Blech.  I woke up with Michael and made him lunch since he was to be in meetings all day.  I made him an awesome veggie turkey and cheese hoagie with chips and a pickle on the side and a clementine for dessert.  I also made him breakfast and brewed a pot of coffee in my fabulous twelve cup button push coffee maker.  Word.

I knew it was once again cold outside so I wore jeans and this dress works with pants because of the cut.  I know the shoe choice isn't super cute but man are those suckers warm, as is my hat.  I got the hat at I. Goldberg last year for $20 and it was worth every penny.  It helps so much on bitter cold days.  The dress was my bridesmaid dress for Sue and Jake's wedding.  Rica and I went shopping at H&M a few weeks before the wedding and found this dress.  I have worn it a few times now and I know Rica wore hers too.  Well done.

I worked a bunch and did a little Christmas shopping and managed to get myself to the gym for a third day in a row.  I had big plans for the night but I got home so late that I just made dinner and vegged.  We had a cayenne pan seared tofu, potatoes au gratin, mixed greens and roasted carrots. It was tasty. I finally got my hair washed so I'm going to go rag curl it up.  I made an appointment for my hair for Tuesday.  I'm so getting bangs.

day eighty-seven.

Day Eighty-seven 11/23/2009
Dress: Alice In Wonderland Baby Doll Dress
Purchased From: An Outdoor market in Spain, Barcelona I think.
Year or Era Purchased:  Spring 1995

Price: $20-30-40?
Accessories: Black thick tights, black faux suede and fur boots
Hair and Makeup: Thrown up into an unruly side bun, usual makeup

Comments/Compliments/Complaints: A client but she totally thought I was wearing a shirt and leggings.  Oh well.

Day:

The wiener dog visitors are doing much better and seem to have settled in and have stopped barking so much.  Yay.  I was feeling a little crappy this morning so I slept in a bit but I was pressing snooze to do so and defeated the whole purpose.  Interrupting sleep every nine minutes does not make for a deep sleep. Dumb.  I finally got up and did the dishes and made coffee. Time got away from me and I had to go work so I threw on a dress and threw my hair into a messy funny pile on top of my head.  The dress is probably my oldest dress.  I bought it in 1995 when I went to Spain with my high school Spanish class.  Thanks Mom an Dad! I remember buying it at an outdoor market that had a curtain I was able to get behind as a fitting room.  It was the 90s so baby doll dresses were all the rage and my Alice in Wonderland obsession was already in full swing so this dress was perfect.  I was about 35lbs. smaller in those times so this dress must have hung on me in a crazy way.  I'm really glad I kept it after all these years.  Clearly it 's not the most flattering thing in the world but that's what I kind of love about it.

I worked and then stopped home for a bagel and gave the wiener dogs a walk. I headed back out to work some more, including helping a client with a few things that did not include walking her dog but did include helping her fill miniature vodka bottles because she is going away to her kids house for Thanksgiving and they don't want her to drink vodka.  She actually called them her "night time vodkas".  I was totally an enabler today.  Weird.

I dragged myself to the gym and then came home and made an awesome dinner of potatoes au gratin, field roast celebration roast, sauteed brussels sprouts and applesauce.  It was really lovely.  Michael and I shared a bottle of red wine and watched Criminal Minds and House.  I walked the doggies again and we met another miniature dachshund named Izzy on our walk.  It was cute.  I am feeling a little sicky in the throat so I'm having an emergen-c and then am off to bed.  I feel like I keep getting almost sick and it never comes to fruition.  I'd like to keep it that way.

day fifty-nine.

man, i need to vacuum under there!

Day Fifty-nine 10/26/2009
Dress: Green Baby Doll Dress
Purchased From: Ross
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2009
Price: $14.99
Accessories: green headband, crazy boots, cream knee socks,
Hair and Makeup: two buns, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Four people (two strangers and two people I know) complimented my boots. I also discovered a hole in them :(
Day:

Today was really busy and jam packed so i just grabbed the first dress I saw and since my eye has been gazing longingly at green more than ever lately it went right to this dress.  You might recognize it from day nineteen and that's because it is the same exact dress, just in green. I got this one first actually and tried to go get it in black but they were all out so I settled for brown.

The day started with me rushing around to get to my second brazilian wax appointment.  I made it to the el right when the train pulled up, walked through the turnstile and onto the train.  Perfect.  I made it Body Restorations at the exact minute of my appointment.  Go me! I was so proud of myself, sad I know. The Brazilian wasn't even half as bad as the first time, awesome.  After the appointment I ran to MAC for foundation and window shopped at H&M, almost bought a $6 hat but walked out.  I met up with MIchael and Wes for lunch at Mi Lah, an awesome vegetarian and mostly if not all vegan place in center city.  I had a portobello sandwich, Michael had pad thai and Wes had this amazingly tasty beer battered seitan sandwich.  I have only ever eaten there for dinner and their lunch is far superior.

After lunch I boarded the El and went to my parked car (walking to the el would've made me late, it wasn't a laziness factor) only to find I got my first parking ticket in something like three or four years.  Ugh. I've been so diligent but in my haste to be on time I completely forgot I parked on a 2 hour parking street. Blargh.  My perfect record is tarnished and I must start over.  Boohiss.

I worked and then even though I was supposed to return to the gym today I did not.  I have to get my butt back there and get back into it.  The lactic acid buildup in my thighs from playing paintball is torture right now and my bruises have all developed into gross and giant marks.  Hopefully this awful pain subsides and I can get back there asap.  I am starting to feel gross and mushy again. Instead of going to the gym I decided to try to recreate this mushroom soup that the Memphis Taproom served last week.  I found a pretty close sounding recipe on Epicurious.com and went to Superfresh for the fixins.  I always forget how much I hate Superfresh and their stupid expensiveness.  Lesson relearned.  I came home and got cracking on the soup and it came out tasting like pure awesomeness! Here's the link, I will be making this again and again and again but maybe doubling the mushrooms to make it thicker and heartier.   Mmmm soup!  I also made my version of La Zucca Magica's Italian inspired Spanakopita, using a pie crusts spread with a puree of spinach, mozzarella and sharp cheddar, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper and then covered with another pie crust.  So good!

After I stuffed my face furiously with the soup I got down to business and watched four episodes of Criminal Minds while working on my costume.  Paper mache, sewing, dying and painting oh my! I am super exhausted and hurty and must attempt to sleep off this pain now.

day nineteen.

Day Nineteen 9/16/2009
Dress: Brown Babydoll dress
Purchased From: Ross
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2009
Price: $12.99
Accessories: Just some rain boots and bright orange tights
Hair and Makeup: Low pig tails but still no real makeup.  The eyes are almost back to normal!
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: A door man called me Pippy Longstocking
Day: Today was another one of those days. Ugh and ick.  Maybe it was the weather.  I mean it wasn't all bad or anything, just meh. Maybe it was the lack of sunshine.  I usually like today's dress but for some reason it was just annoying me today.  I had to go to Rica's today and force feed her kitty Seamus since he's having liver problems (poor little dude!) so I just sort of threw on the first dress and pair of tights I saw.  I didn't bother much with hair or makeup and I think that was my problem.  Oh well.  It's over now.  The hardest thing is taking self portraits on off days, not so much fun.  The dress is identical to a green dress I bought at Ross at the beginning of the summer.  They had it in green and black when I bought it but I only bought the green.  About a month later I decided to go get the black one and of course they were all gone but I did find a brown one and though I don't usually wear a lot of brown I'm not opposed to it so I got it and here it is.  No accessories today.  I was going to wear this sweet fox necklace I got at AC Moore the other day but I couldn't find a chain to fit it.  Maybe tomorrow.

I worked, skipped the gym today and went on a much needed and super boring Target trip.  We needed everything so even though there are many amazing dresses as the guest designer this month is Anna Sui and all the new fall socks and tights are out I resisted temptation and only bought things like toilet bowl cleaner and q-tips.  I did score some rain/garden boots for $4.98!!!! And they're baby blue.  Nice.

For dinner I recycled last nights broccoli and cheese sauce and baked potato and made cream of broccoli and potato soup, bread and salads.  It was like Olive Garden in our house tonight, except better because Olive Garden is kind of gross.  I have $50 in gift cards to Olive Garden that I won by putting $1 into a raffle.  That's kid of awesome and someday I'll take Michael on a sweet and gross date there.  Yup.  Tonight we watched Sunshine Cleaning and I really liked it.  I also hung up a new shower curtain liner that is supposed to be mold and mildew resistant.  I'll keep you posted on how well it works.  I know, the suspense is killing you.   I also did a few of my French Rosetta Stone lessons tonight.  Man alive is that frustrating sometimes.   Me repeating the french word bleu over and over and over it refusing to accept my pronunciation equals a bad time.  I'm going to retire to bed early tonight in hopes that tomorrow is not just a new but a better day.  Au revoir!
