day three hundred hundred sixty-three.

Day Three Hundred Sixty-three Friday  8/27/10
Dress: Green and Blue Floral Vintage Fancypants Dress
Purchased From:  Circle Thrift Clothing Swap
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $FREE!
Accessories:  Feather hair clip,  green flats, blue rose ring
Hair and Makeup: Big puff with a feather hair clip (from Art Star), teased bangs, the rest curled, tons of black eye makeup and usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  Michael liked the outfit, Jody liked the hair clip, one of my clients asked where I was going and said I looked adorable.  I told her nowhere in particular, I just felt like being fancy.

Sometimes a girls just got to get fancified for no good reason, because it's Friday, because this dress begs to be combined with this feather hair clip, because it's the third to the last blog in the year of dresses, because I got an A in my second summer class, because, because, because. It felt silly to walk around all day like this and walk dogs.  I got a lot of weird looks but I'm used to that so I just laughed.  I spent my day working and then came home and freshened up before heading to Kraftwork for dinner and drinks with friends Spano, Jody, Sean and Marie.  Stupidly I hadn't eaten anything all day because it took way longer to get fancy than I'd expected and because the box of nutri grain cereal bars in the cabinet was an empty box.  D'oh.  So yeah, I got a little drunky on Friday.  I had a flight of okay beers (the Victory Baltic Porter was the yummiest, the rest were blah) and then a wicked yummy goblet of Russian River Consecration Wild Ale.  That one, in retrospect, is probably the one that knocked me on my ass since it's a ten percenter.  I also enjoyed a goat cheese and summer veg flatbread pizza. Delicious!
After Kraftwork we headed home to pick up Steve and then went to Kung Fu Necktie for a show.  Our friend's band, Live Not on Evil, was playing.  There I switched to Powers and ginger ale and continued on my drunken merry way.  The show was really good, but really short and so after we headed to the M Room for a few drinks for a night cap.  I think it was something like 10:30 at this point.  Steve and I decided to get specials (a pbr and shot of whiskey) and then we did more shots of Powers.  This is where the night gets hazy.  I apparently punched my friend Chad in the back of his neck, breaking my awesome rose ring and somehow I got a ton of bruises and a huge gash on my leg.  I also remember hanging out with a cat on Girard Ave, he was super sweet and let me hold him.  Once home I apparently made sandwiches, burned myself on the toaster oven, took my sandwich to bed but passed out before I could eat it and then woke up startled and put my hand in my sandwich.  Good times.  I guess maybe getting fancy wasn't the best idea after all!

day three hundred hundred forty-nine.

Day Three Hundred Forty-nine Friday 8/13/10
Dress:  Brownish Pink Sweater Dress
Purchased From: Becky's from the clothing swap
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2010
Price: $FREE
Accessories:  Red flats,Kurt Halsey bird necklace
Hair and Makeup: Pulled back into a bun for some of the day, top in a bun and the rest curled for the evening, usual makeup with lots of grey eyesshadow
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:

Holy nice day Batman! I took advantage of it and wore this sweater fabric dress.  My friend Becky brought it to the clothing swap and thought I'd like it.  She was right.  I woke up late and meandered around, did some dishes and got ready to go work. My hair is wicked dirty right now so I just put it up in a bun to avoid it.  I slapped on some makeup and headed out to work.  I had a slow day so I used the late afternoon to take myself on a little used bookstore/thrift store tour.  I went to Brickbat Books, Headhouse Books, (which is apparently not a used bookstore) Germ Books, Circle Thrift and Super Thrift.  It was a real whirlwind.  Ok, not really.  I was kind of super disappointed in the bookstores.  I got a copy of The Great Gatsby at Brickbat since I've never read it. I know, blasphemous. I'm on it.  Germ was awesome but it's definitely more for the sci-fi/conspiracy theory nerds of the world.  I think the Fairmount used bookstore remains my favorite.  I'll have to make a visit this week.  I did score two dresses at Circle Thrift, and two scarves and a retro picnic basket at Super Thrift.  Nice.  After my crazy little tour I came home and read a little, the fourth book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.  It's summer damn it.  I've been reading lots of real literature short stories for class so I don't feel that bad for indulging.  I took a mini nap and then Michael and I headed to Bar Ferdinand for some tapas and drinks.  We totally over ordered and got our leftovers wrapped up. Unfortunately I left them on the table and in the two minutes it took me to come to this realization they had thrown them away.  D'oh. They were very sweet and offered to remake the food.  Since I'm not a total asshole I declined and we headed home.  The meal was lovely so I really can't complain too much.  I love date nights.

day three hundred twenty-one.

Day Three Hundred Twenty-one Friday  7/16/10
Dress:  Black Puffy Sleeve Cotton Dress
Purchased From:  Thrift Fair but from the tag I know it was originally Target
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2010
Price: $2.95

Accessories:  Green flats, Bow hair clip, fireflies Kurt Halsey necklace.
Hair and Makeup:  Bangs pulled back in bow clip, usual makeup with lots of black eyestuffs
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  One of my clients complimented my necklace.

Somehow in my forgetfulness and bad blogging memories I forgot to mention that on Thursday, yesterday to this blog, but almost a week ago in real life, Michael got it into his head to push a motorcycle almost a mile from our friend Bill's old house that sold to our house. The bike is Bill's brother's bike but our friend Orsborn and Michael will be working on it and riding or something.  I don't know.  These boys confuse me sometimes. So, I drove him there and followed him back to be sure no one fucked with him.   It took some serious time and a lot of sweat but he did it, possibly with a brake stuck on a bit.  I helped push it for about two blocks and realized I probably should've helped most of the time.  Oops.   I mention this because when I woke up on Friday I was shocked to find that my arms hurt quite a bit for so little work. So sad.

I got this dress from Thrift Fair and I quite enjoy it.  The puffy sleeves help to fancy it up a bit and it's super comfortable and flowy- perfect for a gazillion degree day like Friday was.  I paired it with this cute Kurt Halsey necklace that you can purchase from Art Star or if you spend $50 on their site right now you can get it for free.

I spent my day working with an unusual break in the middle where I came home for a late lunch. Orsborn came over to change the spark plugs on the newly pushed to our home motorcycle and I forced him to watch dvr'd episodes of So You Think You Can Dance.  He did not like it one bit.  I headed back out to work around 6, cat jobs galore.  After working I hung out with the Steves and Michael and we headed to El Camino for dinner and drinks.  I had mac and cheese and broccoli rabe.  Nom, nom, nom.  We came home and watched episodes of Invader Zim on Netflix and then went to bed.  Good Friday.

day three hundred and three.

Day Three Hundred Three Monday  6/28/10
Dress:  Yellow Sundress
Purchased From:  Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2010
Price: $4.95

Accessories:  Red polka dot hair kerchief, Kurt Halsey necklace from Art Star, black flats
Hair and Makeup: Double buns and kerchief, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  A necklace compliment and that's all I can remember. I'm a bad blogger.

So yeah, sorry. I was busy this week.  It was my last week of school and I had a project due so this blog was kicked to the curb a little.  I wish I could remember Monday more but I really can't.  I know that it was hot, I worked, I went to school and came home and made dinner.  Typical Monday.  This dress is from Thrift Fair and it's originally a Target dress.  I dig the color and the fact that I stayed cool in it throughout the day.  I'm a fan of ketchup and mustard colors so I paired this dress with a red handkerchief to give it a fun 50's vibe.  I dug it, though my head did sweat a bit.  At least it kept the hair out of my eyes.

day two hundred ninety-four.

Day Two Hundred Ninety-four Saturday  6/19/10
Dress: Grey and White Sundress
Purchased From:  Rainbow
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $10.00

Accessories: Kurt Halsey bird necklace, red flats, white flower clips
Hair and Makeup: Down and scrunched for some of the day and in a bun for the rest- it was hot!
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  Molly liked my necklace and commented that a dress was a smart choice for a hot day and then remembered that I always wear dresses these days :)

Today was awesome.  I woke up and though tired, I did not feel like complete ass.  I had brunch plans with my friend Molly and her friend Kelly.  We attempted Honey's but the wait was 45 minutes so we went to North Third.  They're brunch is pretty damn tasty so it was a-ok.  Molly had hand-me-down dresses for me, like seventeen of them!!!! Thanks Molly! So she lugged them from Manhattan and we met up for brunch so she could bestow them upon me.  They all fit! Well one of them is a teensy bit tight and will require me to get my fat gut back to the gym asap but don't you worry, I will work it out.  Brunch was fun and yummy to boot.  After brunch we went over to Art Star so Molly could get her very own Kurt Halsey bird necklace- everyone should have them really, they rule.  We all did some shopping and I got a new feather barrette for my hair.  It's fancy.

I went home and got ready to go to the Circle Thrift Clothing swap.  It ruled!  Still on a high from my new Molly dresses  I wanted more, more, more.  I scored eleven dresses, two t-shirts that I may convert into dresses-one a Johnny Cash well worn shirt and the other a crazy eagle shirt.  I also scored a new bracelet and a cute plaid jacket.   If you've never been to a clothing swap let me break it down for you.

1.  Get a big open space of sorts or clear some room in your living room
2. Invite a bunch of your friends
3. Tell them to bring clothing (at least 5 articles) they no longer want but that's still in pretty good condition.
4.  Organize- in this case they had clothing racks and tables you could use different sections of floor
      a.  Organize the clothing by style and if you're doing unisex, gender
5. When people show up have them (or designate people to do this job) separate the clothing pieces into the proper
piles of clothing- i.e. shirts go with shirts, dresses are hung, sweaters go with sweaters, pants with pants, etc.
6. Be sure to have several full length mirrors handy.  I'd also suggest wearing or bringing a slip or wearing something form fitting so that trying on clothing is easy if you're modest.

Here are some pictures of the clothing swap I attended today.  This one was $3 to enter and required 5 articles of clothing.  It was separated by gender and clothing style.

I made out like a bandit!!!  Most of the dresses I got are vintage and one is absolutely divine!  I am so excited to wear it and the feather barrette I bought will match it perfectly.  After the swap I went to target for some house stuff and then came home and dedicated hours to catching up on blogs.

Now it's time to go work on a poem that must employ like eight hundred different fucking styles.  This is going to be hard as balls. I will reward myself with beers and food from Kraftwork.

day two hundred fifty-three.

Day Two Hundred Fifty-three Saturday 5/8/10
Dress:  Maroon Sheath Dress
Purchased From:  Deb or some other random weird crappy mall store
Year or Era Purchased: 1999
Price: $24.99????
Accessories:  Vintage short sleeved cream cardigan, squirrel ring from Art Star, black knee socks, black sneaker boots,
Hair and Makeup:
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Michael complimented my dress

This dress has a jacket that goes with it and I want to say it was in my arsenal of three suits purchased for possible interviews before I graduated college. I forgot that it even had the possibility of fitting since I had a fat phase, similar to the one I'm trying to get out of now, when I was in my early twenties.  The jacket is a little dated and boxy but the dress is still good almost ten years later.

It was warmer in the day so I paired it with a cute vintage cardigan, knee socks and sneaker boots.  I spent the day cleaning, running errands and dilly dallying and this dress has some serious stretch so it was quite comfortable for all of it.   We slept in, really late, like after Noon.  Finally we got up and I got to work on the dishes, cleaning the kitchen rugs and mopping the floor.  Michael worked on his closet, putting in drawers and shelves and installing our new globe lights.  He then installed my closet bar and shelf per my instructions. I made a quick trip to CVS and the thrift store, got some toiletries and two dresses and then came home and made us giant veggie hoagies for lunch.  We ate and then continued on the house, cleaning up our computer area, or the land where everything gets piled and stacked and full of dust and construction debris.

New lights and temporary curtains

After working for several hours we rewarded ourselves with a third attempted trip to Kraftwork.  Third time is a charm indeed.  The service was five hundred percent better, same staff but I guess they worked out their kinks. We got beers within a minute, despite the amount of people inside.  I had a Young's Double Chocolate Stout, which tastes like a milkshake, and a Founders Breakfast Stout.  We came home and watched a little television, ate bagels and passed out.  We're pretty awesome.

day two hundred forty-four.

Day Two Hundred Forty-four Thursday 4/29/10
Dress:  Black and Cream Sparkly Striped Dress
Purchased From: Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $3.95
Accessories:  Black flower hair clip, black tights, black sneaker boots, Kurt Halsey bird necklace
Hair and Makeup: Rag curled and pinned up on each side, usual makeup with some sparkly eyes
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Lots of dress and hair and necklace compliments, it was a nice day.

I bought this dress on Monday and I knew a weird wave of summer weather was looming over the weekend so I wore this beautiful long sleeve stripy fabulousness while the getting was good.  It was perfect for Thursday's weather.   I had rag curled my hair the night before, this time including my bangs so this time it was extra crazy and I loved it. I am still not 100% comfortable with it down on the first day so I pinned it up.

I spent my day working then made a mad dash for a supplemental birthday present for my friend Jody.  I had a plan for her, thinking it was great and then wham, her boyfriend bought it for her. Luckily I found out before I presented it to her.   Shopping sucked and nothing tickled my Jody instincts so I ended up at home on Etsy.com.  Before that though I most certainly rolled my ankle on the Urban Outfitters stairs and fell on my butt.  Awesome.  I always laugh when people fall so I had to laugh at myself, but that was after a few moments of sitting still for my stung pride.

I came home and made myself a little pasta and then headed out to 700 for some Jody celebration.  I rode my bike and had a lovely blackberry chili margarita.   Michael met me there and we all hung out for a while.  It was nice.

day two hundred twenty-seven.

Day Two Hundred Twenty-Seven 4/12/10
Dress: Red Pin-up Style Polka Dot Dress
Purchased From: Sazz Vintage
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $10.00
Accessories:  Black tights, super high top chucks, baby blue cardigan, kurt halsey bird necklace
Hair and Makeup: Curled and in low pigtails, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  I think like ten different strangers commented on my shoes

My body was still mad at me all day.  It does not like bad food or intense amounts of alcohol anymore.  I woke at 5am with what I like to call poo contractions.  Not fun.  I went back to bed and woke up when Michael and Orsborn were leaving to go stand in line for standing room only tickets for the opening day at home Phillies game.  Bless them.  I went back to sleep in an attempt to sleep off the sick. It sort of worked.  I finally got up and hurriedly dressed in Phillies inspired gear, a red dress and light blue cardigan.  The dress was a little bit and sackesque so I added a matching red polka dot waist belt but my belly was aching so very much that I took the belt off and left it at home.  Fashion lost the fight.

I worked and then headed to the stadium to meet up with Michael, Orsborn, my sister-in-law Colie and her boyfriend Mike.  The game was good and the Phillies won.  Nice.  I attempted to find ginger ale but that wasn't happening so I tried a coke.  I'm not a big fan of soda, in fact I find it sort of disgusting in theory and I wish it didn't exist since it's one of the things making Americans turn into the characters from Wally.  Anyway, enough soda ranting.  I broke down and bought one hoping the bubbles would help, not so much. At least I got a new plastic Phillies travel cup to put ice water in on my daily travels. I am such a nerd.

We came home and I took a nap, still belly aching.  It helped a bit and I got up and made some leftovers and dvr'd it up on the couch.  Monday felt like an extended Sunday.  It was weird.

Day:

SNOW DAY!!!

Here's my newest slip. I love it because it is a slip and because it is pink.  Fun.  I paired it with a pink hat and pink jewelry, a necklace from Art Star.

I woke up late and meandered around praying for my final cancellation.  It finally arrived via text at 12:03PM.    The day got away from me but I enjoyed it all.  I made coffee and cleaned the kitchen, which is when I saw Maalox on the fence post shivering in the cold.  He broke my heart.  It looks like something attacked him but he was successful at defending himself.  He's missing half of his tail and a lot of fur around his neck.  He's also red and looks tender around his bald spots.  Poor little guy.  I dumped an entire bag of peanuts on his table and watched him eat for the next half hour or so while I did the dishes. It's been about three and half years that I've been feeding him so I guess he's pretty old.  Poor little dude. I always know it's him because he has a slit in his ear and will come right up to me.  He almost climbed me once.  I wish he could've come in and sat by the fire today.

I spent almost my entire day in the kitchen cleaning and cooking.  I made breakfast for Michael, Steve and I since the mayor told people to stay inside and eat a hot breakfast.  Plus the boys shoveled while I cooked.  Thanks boys.  We drank mimosas and I built a fire.  Later in the day I made my first ever from scratch cake and a lovely cauliflower soup with truffle oil.  I didn't use the recipe I posted yesterday.  Instead I opted for another recipe on epicurious.com.  It also involved truffle oil.  I added some olive tapenade too and served it with crusty buttered bread.  I made boys into happy boys tonight.  The cake I made was this chocolate stout cake. It was amazing.  Clearly I suck at icing and making it pretty, but it sure tasted like a dream about unicorns and rainbows and chocolate rivers.

I am so dreading tomorrow.  The snow levels are insane.  Do not want.
