day three hundred nineteen.

Day Three Hundred Nineteen Wednesday  7/14/10
Dress:  Navy Blue and white striped Dress
Purchased From:  Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2010
Price: $3.95

Accessories:  Hunter Wellies
Hair and Makeup:  Down and curled but then it poured rain on me so it was up in a bun, usual makeup with some navy blue eyeshadow in the crease.
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  Michael liked the dress, someone meowed and said hey beautiful or something while they were driving by. What's with the meowing dudes?

I like this dress despite it's boob factor.  I safety pinned it to my bra so it would stop falling down and that sort of worked.  I definitely dig the stripes and the cut.  It's a forever 21 dress, thrifted for maximum savings.

Ugh.  I stupidly did not prepare myself for the rain on Wednesday.  I did wear my wellies but did not bring my umbrella, a rain coat or a hat.  I guess I got a little cocky.  Dumb.  Even dumber is the fact that I spent time curling my hair.  I ended up walking in the pouring rain for about two solid hours.   Everything about me was soaked.  It finally stopped and I dried out a bit.  I had stopped by the 25th and Spruce Street Wednesday farmer's market and grabbed a bunch of lovely stuff so when I came home from work I immediately starting cooking.  I made seitan with a red wine, shitake and cremini mushroom sauce, horse radish cheddar mashed potatoes and a spring mix salad.  Yum. It was served with sourdough bread, also procured from the market.  After dinner we headed to North Bowl and bowled with our friends, John and Dana.  I did pretty terribly but managed to beat Michael in the first game.  Consistency is not my friend when it comes to bowling.

day two hundred seventy-nine.

Day Two Hundred Seventy-nine Friday 6/4/10
Dress: Grey and black turtleneck Dress
Purchased From:  Thrift Fair but it's from Forever 21
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $4.95

Accessories: black flats
Hair and Makeup: Down with a flower clip, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:

This dress would've been so much better if it wasn't eight hundred degrees.  Its turtleneck srangled me as did the humidity.

Fridays are my slow days but for some reason my jobs took forever.  Maybe because it was crazy hot and humid.  It all equaled up to a big old cranky solution.   I slept late, worked all day and came home and made veggie BLT hoagies for dinner.  I spent a large amount of time on the couch being crankypants.  Stupid heat.  We were fighting turning on the air conditioner but finally gave in to the comfort. Totally boring.

day two hundred sixty-nine.

stepping into wellies on a rainy afternoon.

Day Two Hundred Sixty-nine Monday 5/24/10
Dress: Black Pocketed Dress
Purchased From:  Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $3.95

Accessories: Black tights, black sneaker boots for some of the day and Hunter wellies for the rest, orange cardigan for some of the day, green cardigan for the rest, deer necklace
Hair and Makeup: Double buns and bangs pinned back with a black flower clip,  no makeup for some of the day, usual makeup for the rest
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  Dress compliment from my friend Kelly

I like this dress, tagged as from Forever 21 but thrifted, and honestly I wish I'd done more with it but this morning was reserved for homework and I just didn't have it in me to put together an amazing outfit.  Midday I changed my shoes to wellies since it started raining and I came home and put on some makeup since I'm not a fan of naked face.  I also realized that my sweater was a bit gross in the pits so I changed to a fresh, clean one.

Today was pretty awesome even though I spent two hours finishing the crazy outline story that involved a moon of Saturn being made out of cheese and the main character eating half of it, not my usual style.  I finally got myself out of the house sans makeup or lunch and started working.  I got to meet four foster puppies at my friend Kelly's house.  Adorable.  I continued working, got a deli sandwich and came home devouring it and two chapters of Margaret Atwood's Negotiating with the Dead. I went to class and we learned about character outlines and development.  It was my turn for our writer's workshop and it went really well.  I got some awesome ideas and feedback and some compliments that made me super excited.  I went to Whole Foods after and then came home and blubbered away at Michael.  I am so so so happy to be back in school right now and writing something other than a blog detailing my wardrobe and life.  Don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying this and it will be awesome to look back on this year long diary/journey someday but I'm excited to really write again.  I never developed it and instead of sitting around sulking about it I'm actually doing something.  It sort of rules.  I do need to figure out how to work it into my life and continue on with our bedroom move and working and time management but I'll get there.  Baby steps. And now it's time for some homework and again I am super excited about it! Nerd!!!!

day two hundred forty-five.

Two Hundred Forty-five Friday 4/30/10
Dress:  Orange and Grey Shirt Sundress
Purchased From: Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $5.95
Accessories:  Black tights, black sneaker boots, big sunglasses
Hair and Makeup: Rag curled, bangs pinned back. Usual makeup with orange eyeshadow
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: A few hair compliments, a stranger at the grocery store said I "looked so cute in that dress," and one of the door guys at a building I work in called me a chameleon.

It was to be hot on Friday so I was super excited when I saw this dress hanging from the ceiling at Thrift Fair.  It was a bit pricey for a thrift store dress, $5.95, especially since it has a Forever 21 label in it and I'm sure its original price was $11.50 or so.  Oh bother, I'm so cheap.   I liked it enough to suck it up and spend $5.95 on it. It isn't the most flattering dress in the bum area since I have a larger bum and it hugs it in an odd way.  I wore tights with it to boost my confidence levels.

I spent my day working, as pictured with the dog butts, stopped at the grocery store for sandwich fixins, came home and made a sandwich and ate it as the first thing I had eaten all day.  No good.  I then promptly fell asleep on the couch to an episode of Top Chef Masters.   I woke up around 9 and joined a group of people, Arthritis Mike, Glaucoma Mike, Steve, Melissa and one of Mike's old co-workers Wayne, hanging out in my back yard.  It was fun and I laughed a lot.  We made up the word jizzy to be used sort of like smurf or as to say something is good.  For example:

Noun:  Jack needed the oil pan and said, "Hey can you hand me that jizzy?"

Adjective: Alexis really liked John's shirt and complimented him by saying, "John, that shirt is really jizzy."

Verb: After realizing he didn't put any deodorant on that morning Martin jizzied his pits twice in his nightly shower.

You can also use it to replace other words like smurf:  My jizzy is all jizzied with jizzy.

As you can see it was quite an evening.

day two hundred and ten.

Day Two Hundred Ten 3/25/10
Dress: Navy Blue Baby Doll Dress
Purchased From: Circle Thrift (forever 21 dress)
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $5.00
Accessories: hunter wellies (they called for rain), green tights,
Hair and Makeup: braids, cream knit hat, usual makeup with no eyeliner
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: hmm, none that I can remember
Day:

Ugh.  Sorry.

So I got word from my brother that my sister-in-law, his wife, was released from the hospital today but without a full diagnosis.  That's no fun.  Hopefully they find out more information soon.  Seeing him scared made me really sad.   I'm still exhausted and posting both yesterday and todays entries at the same time because lately time isn't something I've had to spare.  Between working, family stuff, shower prep and house renovations I am beyond exhausted. I spent the beginning of the week with the worst stiff neck ever.  I'm not so good with stress, according to my friend and massage therapist, Rica, I carry it all in my neck and shoulders.  Awesome.  Next week I register for my summer and fall classes.  That should add nicely to my stress.  I'm looking at Creative Writing, Fiction, Scriptwriting and Poetry.  Not too shabby.  Let's see if I can still construct non blog sentiments from these fingertips.  I hope to have more interesting updates in a few days.  Hopefully the shower goes well and fabulous blog worthy photographs will be aplenty.

I got this dress yesterday when I did a little thrift store therapy.  I stopped at Circle Thrift on my way home and got five dresses.  One of which was this simple navy blue knit baby doll dress.  I knew I'd be running around like crazy (and sort of getting lost in South Philly parking lots with Rica but I'll have to explain all that later) so I wanted to be comfortable.  It was cold again and they predicted rain but I've realized that the weatherjerks have been wrong all week so I don't know why I bother.  Oh well, I wore my wellies to not a drop of rain.  I purposely stepped in tiny puddles.  I dug out my winter coat and wore a hat for warmth.  Blargh.  The other dresses I scored included a vintage Saks Fifth Avenue dress and a few other casual dresses. I was super stoked on the Saks dress.  It's weird and long and black with a bright floral pattern.  It has long sleeves so I'll have to wear it fast. Wee.  I'm off to bed for super early wake up times and a very busy day.

day one hundred sixty-one.

Day One Hundred Sixty-one 2/5/10
Dress: Orange and Grey Strapless Bubble Dress

Purchased From: Super Thrift
Year or Era Purchased: Winter 2010
Price: $2.95

Hair and Makeup: Side up twist, the rest curled a bit, usual makeup with lots of gold toned eyeshadows
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:
Day:

So I put this dress on and realized there were these super weird shoulder pad looking boob cups in the boob area.  They were in between the outer and inner layers of fabric.  I think that's why it still had tags on it at a thrift store. I cut a hole on the inside boob area and pull them out, snipping the seams they were held in by and voila, no more weird boob cups. I totally love this dress so I was beyond happy with the outcome.  I love pairing shoulder printed t-shirts with strapless dresses and immediately thought of my It's From the Sky shirt for this one.  It was supposed to snow earlier than it did today so I was prepared for it and wore my wellies.  Any excuse is a good one for me.

Most of the day was normal work and then I made the mistake of venturing to Trader Joe's.  The bread was completely cleaned out and the freezer section was looking dismal.  People are insane.  I do like to cook during snowstorms so I understand but my god.  I went mostly for cheese and nuts to make yummy mac n' cheese tomorrow.  Trader Joe's has good prices on veg friendly cheeses.  Michael walked over from work and met me there and we waited in line together and he made it bearable by pointing out the rooster driving the car on their gift cards.  Since Trader Joe's does not have kale or swiss chard I also headed to the crappy thriftway.  I came home and made veggie turkey sandwiches from slices of the Quorn turkey loaf I made for dinner last night and coma'd  out on the couch for a bit.  Finally the energy I had been searching for entered my body and I joined MIchael in cleaning out our linen/storage closet on our second floor.  Plumbing needs require the space cleared so we had to go through three years of crap.  I found a few things I had labeled gone forever and a few things that will soon be gone forever.   Now we are dirty and dusty and tired and I will retire to bed for a morning of continued cleaning and organizing and cooking while the sky is littering a sea of white all over Philadelphia.

Day:

Today was so sad. I don't want to write about it much.  We put our cat Easter to sleep today.  She was in renal failure and has been suffering from kidney disease, hyperthyroid and high blood pressure for almost two years now. She stopped eating on Saturday and that's when I knew she was done. I probably could've kept her alive with lots of pills and fluids but it would only have provided me with a few extra days and her with more suffering.  Michael and I took her and held her the whole time.  She chomped down on my hand at one point and left me with a nice puncture wound to remember her by.   We came home and started drinking, me a dark beer, Michael some fancy whiskey that was a wedding present from our friend Caroline.  I tried it and it was smooth and lovely.  I checked the mail and got a huge kick to the face in the form of a letter from CCP saying I can't take classes this semester as my paperwork wasn't in on time.  Ugh.  I don't understand why no one could tell me this last week when I was there in person.  I guess I have to go tomorrow and see if there's anything I can do.  Good thing I already bought my books, lost the receipt and attended a class.

This dress is my Easter mourning dress. I bought it yesterday at the Super Thrift.  It's a forever 21 dress. It kind of stretches out as the day goes on, not great but hey, I bought it for $2.50.

Here's are some pictures of my baby girl Easter that I've been looking over while listening to sad music.  The first one is by my friend Jared Castaldi and I love how you can see her surly attitude in it.

day one hundred forty-eight.

Day One Hundred Forty-eight 1/23/2010
Dress: Black Lace Top Cocktail Dress
Purchased From:  Forever 21
Year or Era Purchased:  Winter 2007 or Spring 2008
Price: $22.50
Accessories:  Black short sleeved jacket, black tights, gold heels
Hair and Makeup: Usual makeup with extra grey and purple eyeshadow, wavy/curled hair
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: MIchael

Day:
Today was mostly lazy and fat.  Michael and I lounged about and then ate Primo hoagies and he watched Grey's Anatomy with me.  I think he secretly likes that show.  We spent a large portion of our day on Easter the cat death watch.  It's so sad. I think I'm going to take her to the vet on Monday morning and have her put to sleep.  I've only ever had to make that decision before with my rat Alcatraz but he was already in the hospital and the vet advised it.  Easter is my little old lady curmudgeon and I'm so sad to watch her stumble around hide in dark corners.  She was diagnosed with hyperthyroid, kidney failure and high blood pressure about two years ago.  I think her kidneys started to fail rapidly over the last day or two and she has been losing weight for the last two years but is now mostly skin and bones.  She still purrs when I hold her and pet her but she mostly just wants to be alone.  A few minutes ago she climbed into the cat bowl of toys and peed all over them.  I just let her do it and threw away the toys.  She's old and dying and she can pee where she wants to pee.   Steve always jokes that Easter looks like she should be at the bar smacking the bar for more drinks.  She used to smack our hands while we ate so we would feed her any dairy or Italian food we had on our plates. I have video of her eating spaghetti but I'm too tired to deal with that so until I figure it out tomorrow here's a still photograph:

Somehow the day got away from me and I eventually got ready for our evening events.  I didn't wear this dress all day but I had to attend my client's 70th birthday party this evening so I gussied up a bit to attend the high society party.  It was held in a condo building in Society Hill and Michael and I got to have weird and surreal and sometimes awkward conversations with strangers.  Michael and I found a middle aged couple to talk to and actually stayed a lot longer than we expected. It was nice to do something so out of the ordinary and weird. I love my shoes so much, they're actually my wedding shoes and they're from Smak Parlour.  I love them so but after approximately three hours my feet began to feel as if one million fire ants with tiny hammers are smashing into the balls of my feet in unison.  The dress is also not an all nighter as the lace top starts to itch and annoy me in the armpit area.  I once wore it to a Madonna/Michael/Prince and by the end of the night I was wicked rashy from the sweat induced lace chaffing. Yum.

I think now I'm going to crawl into bed and watch Lucky Louie on Michael's laptop.

day fifty-seven.

Day Fifty-seven 10/24/2009
Dress: Black Tank Dress
Purchased From: Forever 21
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2009
Price: $10.50
Accessories: Jeans for some of the day, White with black piping short sleeved Vintage cardigan
Hair and Makeup: Bun, minimal makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Michael
Day:

I knew I'd be sitting on the floor a lot today doing costume stuff so I wanted something comfortable and easy to move in, and voila a black tank dress was dug out from the pile of clothing at the end of our bed, my next project once Halloween is over.  I wore it with jeans for most of the day, until it got too hot.  The dress is super easy to wear and comfortable.  It's from Forever 21 and I am kicking myself for not buying it in other colors.

I forgot to set the alarm for later today and Ipacac decided he wanted to sleep on my head so I woke up at 8:30 on a Saturday. Weird.  I got a lot done today so it turned out to be nice but now I'm exhausted before midnight on a Saturday night.  Old.

I made us omelets for breakfast and then spent the rest of the day cleaning, decorating a little bit for Halloween and shopping for my costume components.  After long trips to Target and AC Moore I think I am good to go.  Besides costume stuff I also purchased a new winter coat at Target, a big girl coat that isn't for dogwalking! Ok, maybe a few times it will be.  It's kelly green and has toggles and I love it.  The Anna Sui dress that I've been coveting was 30% off but that meant it was still $41,still too much, especially when a winter coat is calling my name.

I made a dinner of seitan, sour cream mashed potatoes, corn with garlic lime butter and brussels sprouts.   After filling my belly I got down to business: a horror movie and the beginning construction of my Halloween costume.  I put a big dent into the project just by getting started and now I'm totally excited about it. I do predict many hours of bad horror movies (today's was The Haunting of Molly Hartley- very bad!) and costume construction in the next few days.  I am documenting it all with pictures so I can blog in detail.  Putting up a few decorations really got me into the Halloween spirit that I was greatly lacking.  I am so tired now and tomorrow is a full day of paintball war for Kristin and Becky's birthdays and then a solid few hours of costume construction.  I can't wait!

day forty-one

Waterfall :)

day forty-one

Day Forty-one 10/8/2009
Dress: Orange and Navy Blue Patterned Kimono Style Dress
Purchased From: Forever 21
Price: $22.50
Accessories: none, blue sandals
Hair and Makeup: down with the underneath braided, velvet moss and
brûlé mac eyeshadows
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:
Today's dress is one of my favorite new dresses. It's comfortable and
I think sort of flattering except when the wind blows.
We tried to go on a boat but it is closed today so perhaps tomorrow
before we drive into Italy. We had crepes again and mine was
absolutely disgusting. So sad, the crepe itself was fine but inedible
since stupid me ordered one with egg and it was just a mess of wet
gross partially cooked egg. Blech. Savory crepes in France have let me
down. If I get another chance I'll go sweet. The best part about
lunch was that we saw a dude with a cat on top of his backpack!
Awesome. I'll post that picture too, so good. We had some strays at
our apartment last night. I tried to throw some cheese at them to eat
but may have frightened them
We then and did some touristy stuff like climbing a cool mountain (ok
it was all stairs) to view all of Nice and a watefall. Very nice.
Tonight we'll eat up all our apartment food in a giant dinner feast on
the balcony before we have to check out tomorrow morning. Sad face.
But not before gelato again to make up for that awful crepe and my
bellyache.

day thirty-nine

Thursday, September 24, 2009

day twenty-seven.

Day Twenty-seven 9/24/2009
Dress: Navy Blue Sundress
Purchased From: Forever 21
Year or Era Purchased: Summer 2009
Price: $12.50
Accessories: Blue Payless sandals
Hair and Makeup:  low pigtails, blush
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Two shoe compliments and two dress compliments,  from strangers, clients and friends.
Day:  Today was so much better than yesterday even though I woke up to Ipacac landing wrestling moves on my face at 6am.  I woke up and tried to pretty up to go to my waxing appointment.  I felt like I had to look a certain way for some reason, sort of fancy, classy I guess.  You know that scene in Say Anything when Diane Court goes to visit the FBI guys to find out if her Dad is guilty and she says something like "I thought if I wore these clothes, if I looked a certain way" or something like that? Probably not because you are quite possibly not as fanatical about the movie as I am but whatever.  That is how I felt.  I put on a newish dress and some pretty sandals that I got on clearance at Payless.  I hurriedly rushed to the train but missed the one I wanted and was late for my appointment.  I am always late.  Ugh.  The waxing went smoothly, get it? Har har.  It hurt like no other pain I've really ever felt before and now it sort of feels like I got punched in the hooha but it's done.  It was also absolutely embarrassing but my esthetician was really nice and put me at ease by telling me stories about crazy clients she's had like one woman who drank many shots of Hennessy before her first Brazilian and proceeded to lose all of her inhibitions and curse up a storm very loudly while snooty rich ladies were waiting for massages and facials in the room right outside.  It made me feel better.

Afterwards I met Michael and we went to AAA to get our International Driver's Permits so we can drive around in France.  Neato.   I force fed Seamus the cat for Rica (he's on the road to recovery from some sicky Liver action) and then made a quick stop at Circle Thrift on Frankford Ave in Fishtown.  I haven't been in forever and I always score amazing stuff there.  Today was no different as I got an adorable kelly green and white sundress, a cute snap up stripey H&M dress, an awesome houndstooth dress and oh my god a BCBG Max Azria black cocktail dress that fit perfectly all for $20, that's $5 per dress folks!!!!  Damn.  So happy with my finds.

I worked a bunch today and then came home and made dinner, mostly on the grill since it's getting to be non-grilling season.   I grilled marinated seitan, baby yukon gold potatoes, corn on the cob and leftover asparagus.  Yum.  Jody came over and we caught up on some Project Runway and conversation.  I know, not the most interesting night but I had a really nice day and night with minimal stress and aggroness.  Oh and I watched the new Always Sunny. Word.

Now Michael and I are searching for a hotel to stay in the day we get to France.  Tomorrow I get to wake up to my favorite beagle friend, Rosie, since she'll be staying with me this weekend.  Expect photos.
