day two hundred forty-nine.

Two Hundred Forty-nine Tuesday 5/4/10
Dress:  Black and White Crossword Dress
Purchased From: Conway
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $3.99
Accessories:  Black knee highs, black sneaker boots, black ribbon belt, big black sunglasses
Hair and Makeup: Brushed out rag curls turned to waves, usual makeup with purple eyeshadow
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  A stranger complimented my dress and told me he likes crossword puzzles, a (creepy) stranger at the thrift store told me I'm very pretty but he said it in sort of a shocked voice that I didn't quite understand.

Whew, this will get me all caught up.  Pardon me for being so lax lately with the posting.  I suppose I need to work on that a bit.  I wish I could say it's because I've been soooo busy with this or that but no, it's pretty much laziness.  My apologies.

I've been waiting for the time to be right for this dress and today's weather was pretty much perfect for it.  I found this in the pajama department at Conway and since I love crossword puzzles I was super excited to find this gem for $3.99.  The sleeves are oddly large and unflattering so I added a black ribbon belt for a bit of definition.  I'm also smitten with knee socks lately as I saw my friend Melissa wearing them with shorts the other day and made a mental style note.  I do this a lot if I see someone's style I like I'll scan them and put some of their cuteness into my brain's style arsenal.  For example, a few weeks ago when Michael and I were at the Apple store in Delaware this super cute Asian Amy Winehouse looking girl was in the store and I took a mental note of her hair and overall style and incorporated it into my look the next day.  She had a poof/braid combo and wore a super cute red farmer/lolita style dress.  I suppose some might say that's biting people's style.  I call it inspiration.

So today was another pretty much boring day.  I ate a light lunch of leftover soup and mixed greens with olive oil.  It was yummy.  It would've been a great healthy day if one of my clients hadn't gifted me with a tub of caramel popcorn that I chowed down on for a solid fifteen minutes in an out-of-body caramel popcorn experience.  D'oh.  I spent the day working, it was a long one and I ended it with a kitty visit.  She's very cute and likes her ears massaged.  Her name is Farfel:

She lives above a used bookstore so I took a quick look around and came up with one of my books for my Creative Writing class, Nine Stories by J. D. Salinger.  I also grabbed Lucky by Alice Sebold, a book I always meant to read.   I took a quick trip to the thrift store and got five dresses for $18.75, headed to CVS for some much needed toiletries and a cute new baby blueish green nail polish.

For dinner I fired up the grill and made grilled seitan, grilled corn on the cob, grilled truffled potato salad and a big green salad with homemade croutons.  We watched Lost and I cried like a baby.  Tuesdays are always better because of Lost.  I don't know what I'm going to do when it's over. Blargh.   I also watched Happtown on my DVR.  I can't tell exactly but I feel like it's trying to be Twin Peaks but it's coming off more like Desperate Housewives.  I guess I'll give it one more episode to decide.

It feels good to be caught up.   Now I suppose I need to work on cleaning and organizing.  I'll get there someday.

day two hundred forty-eight.

Two Hundred Forty-eight Monday 5/3/10
Dress:  Tan Corduroy Jumper Dress
Purchased From: Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $3.95
Accessories:  Black blouse, Green Hunter wellies,
Hair and Makeup: Rag curled with bangs in mini buns, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  Michael liked the dress, Nicole complimented my hair

Boring Monday workday but I did like my outfit.  I love jumpers, overalls, etc.  My Mom dressed me in a lot of them growing up and my love for them carried over into my adulthood.  It rained like crazy in the morning so I wore my wellies, any excuse to wear them really.

Like I said before it was a boring day.  I worked, went to Whole Foods, picked up Michael from work, came home and made a Vegetarian Chipotle Chicken Tortilla soup that I concocted from several recipes on epicurious.com, watched some television and headed to bed. Soooooo exciting!!!!

day two hundred forty-seven.

Two Hundred Forty-seven Sunday 5/2/10
Dress:  Houndstooth Jumper Dress
Purchased From: Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $3.95
Accessories:  I <3 Boosh pin, red knee socks, black flats, big black sunglasses
Hair and Makeup: Rag curled with bangs in mini buns, usual makeup
Comments/Compliments/Complaints:  Michael liked the dress, Nicole complimented my hair

So I am absolutely in love with this dress. Houndstooth, sort of overallesque, short but not clingy so I felt cute and a little sexy with the addition of knee socks but still self conscious at all since it hid all the right spots.  I scored this at Thrift Fair and almost squealed in glee when I found it.  I thought I was going to a roller derby bout so I threw on these cute red knee socks to support my friend Kristin's team,  The Broad Street Butchers.  Sadly we didn't make it...

Sunday proved to be just as awesome as Saturday, despite the early Summer like humidity.  I slept in and after a leisurely morning of coffee, internets and sandwiches Michael and I headed to Ikea for mater bedroom closet solutions, lighting, etc.  Somehow we ended up in an Ikea time warp and we were there for almost two hours.  This unfortunately made us miss the Roller Derby bout we had planned to attend. While in Ikea I got a phone call from my sister-in-law asking if we wanted her Phillies tickets since she got ahold of some box seats.   Score.   We finished our shopping and came home with two free standing closets of the Pax variety.  We also got two globe lights, some curtain rods, fabric with a squirrel standing on a birdcage and some other random stuff.   We came home and lugged it all inside, sweating profusely since it was almost ninety degrees and super humid.  Good day to lug two closets up two flights of stairs.  Ouch and gross.  I ran out to feed a turtle while Michael started constructing the beasts.  Once I got home we left for the game, which turned out to be the best game I've ever seen.  With two outs and two strikes everyone just started hitting.  It was amazing.  By the time the inning was over the Phils were up by 8.  My hands hurt from clapping so much.  I got an ice cream cone to celebrate, something I regretted later.   During the 8th inning we got a text from Colie that she could get us into  their suite so we headed over to see it.  It was insane! I need to get rich and get one.  We hung out there for a while and then Michael and I headed home watched The Pacific and quickly retired to bed.  It was an absolutely superb weekend.

day two hundred forty-six.

Two Hundred Forty-six Saturday (Rabbit Rabbit) 5/1/10
Dress:  Black Dress
Purchased From: Express
Year or Era Purchased: 2002 (ish)
Price: $30 (ish)
Accessories:  Black heels, bird necklace
Hair and Makeup: Rag curled, bangs pinned back. Usual makeup with sparkly eyeshadow
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Michael said I looked "gorgeous"

And that's how you get ants...

I woke up Saturday to Michael's quavering voice informing me that ants had in fact taken up residence in our kitchen.   Apparently he doesn't do well with ants, especially when they invade his kitchen and crawl on him while he tries to do the dishes and rid his life of them. I, on the other hand, am just fine with ants.  Please keep your maggots and spiders to yourself.

I got up and dressed and proceeded to clean the kitchen from top to almost bottom.  We're out of Swiffer style (I actually try to only use the non-Swiffer ones since Swiffer is evil proctor & gamble but I guess Swiffer has become like Xerorx and that's how everyone knows the product) mop covers and MIchael used our regular mop to tung oil the floors and I've yet to replace it. The floor will have to wait, the ants prefer the countertops anyway.

After cleaning I messed it up a bit and cooked a giant breakfast of omelets and home fries and veggie sausage and toast.  Yum.  After breakfast I set my sights on the bathroom and cleaned it from top to bottom as I clean the bathroom floor the old fashioned way, hands and knees style.

It felt really good to accomplish a bunch of stuff on a weekend day.  I'd love to get our whole house cleaned and organized in the next month while we move into our new bedroom.

I changed out of my gross cleaning clothes, showered and dressed and applied makeup so we could go to dinner with our friends Heather and Jon.  I love this dress and consider it one in my arsenal of grown-up dresses.  I paired it with some Target heels and felt lovely.  Since my hair was still a mess of curly waves and knots I just added some frizz ease secret weapon and scrunched it into obedience.  I felt very Carrie Bradshaw with that mane of hair.  We went to Osaka in Lansdale and it was delightful food and company.  My vegetable hating friend Heather actually ate an edamame! I was quite proud of her.   We hung out for a while and even spent the better part of an hour in the parking lot continuing to play catch up.

Later that night Michael and I, joined by our roommate Steve sat at the kitchen table, something we can't always do because it's often piled high with stuff, and enjoyed a pint of beer.   It was such a lovely Saturday.

day two hundred forty-five.

Two Hundred Forty-five Friday 4/30/10
Dress:  Orange and Grey Shirt Sundress
Purchased From: Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $5.95
Accessories:  Black tights, black sneaker boots, big sunglasses
Hair and Makeup: Rag curled, bangs pinned back. Usual makeup with orange eyeshadow
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: A few hair compliments, a stranger at the grocery store said I "looked so cute in that dress," and one of the door guys at a building I work in called me a chameleon.

It was to be hot on Friday so I was super excited when I saw this dress hanging from the ceiling at Thrift Fair.  It was a bit pricey for a thrift store dress, $5.95, especially since it has a Forever 21 label in it and I'm sure its original price was $11.50 or so.  Oh bother, I'm so cheap.   I liked it enough to suck it up and spend $5.95 on it. It isn't the most flattering dress in the bum area since I have a larger bum and it hugs it in an odd way.  I wore tights with it to boost my confidence levels.

I spent my day working, as pictured with the dog butts, stopped at the grocery store for sandwich fixins, came home and made a sandwich and ate it as the first thing I had eaten all day.  No good.  I then promptly fell asleep on the couch to an episode of Top Chef Masters.   I woke up around 9 and joined a group of people, Arthritis Mike, Glaucoma Mike, Steve, Melissa and one of Mike's old co-workers Wayne, hanging out in my back yard.  It was fun and I laughed a lot.  We made up the word jizzy to be used sort of like smurf or as to say something is good.  For example:

Noun:  Jack needed the oil pan and said, "Hey can you hand me that jizzy?"

Adjective: Alexis really liked John's shirt and complimented him by saying, "John, that shirt is really jizzy."

Verb: After realizing he didn't put any deodorant on that morning Martin jizzied his pits twice in his nightly shower.

You can also use it to replace other words like smurf:  My jizzy is all jizzied with jizzy.

As you can see it was quite an evening.

day two hundred forty-four.

Day Two Hundred Forty-four Thursday 4/29/10
Dress:  Black and Cream Sparkly Striped Dress
Purchased From: Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $3.95
Accessories:  Black flower hair clip, black tights, black sneaker boots, Kurt Halsey bird necklace
Hair and Makeup: Rag curled and pinned up on each side, usual makeup with some sparkly eyes
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Lots of dress and hair and necklace compliments, it was a nice day.

I bought this dress on Monday and I knew a weird wave of summer weather was looming over the weekend so I wore this beautiful long sleeve stripy fabulousness while the getting was good.  It was perfect for Thursday's weather.   I had rag curled my hair the night before, this time including my bangs so this time it was extra crazy and I loved it. I am still not 100% comfortable with it down on the first day so I pinned it up.

I spent my day working then made a mad dash for a supplemental birthday present for my friend Jody.  I had a plan for her, thinking it was great and then wham, her boyfriend bought it for her. Luckily I found out before I presented it to her.   Shopping sucked and nothing tickled my Jody instincts so I ended up at home on Etsy.com.  Before that though I most certainly rolled my ankle on the Urban Outfitters stairs and fell on my butt.  Awesome.  I always laugh when people fall so I had to laugh at myself, but that was after a few moments of sitting still for my stung pride.

I came home and made myself a little pasta and then headed out to 700 for some Jody celebration.  I rode my bike and had a lovely blackberry chili margarita.   Michael met me there and we all hung out for a while.  It was nice.

day two hundred forty-three.

Day Two Hundred Forty-three Wednesday 4/28/10
Dress:  Black and Turquoise Vintage 80s Dress
Purchased From: Thrift Fair
Year or Era Purchased: Spring 2010
Price: $4.95
Accessories:  Cream knit hat, turquoise striped leg warmers, neck cowl by Off The Chain Designs
Hair and Makeup:  Up in double buns with side swept bangs under a hat, usual makeup with extra black eyeshadow and mauve lips
Comments/Compliments/Complaints: Michael called me "future amish", a client complimented my leg warmers

It was so cold on Wednesday that I had to dig out a bunch of cold weather accessories.  Luckily I had purchased this weird long sleeved dress on Monday.  The arms were super big and weird but otherwise I liked it a lot.  I added a knit hat, my favorite cowl by Off the Chain Designs and some leg warmers Jody bought me for Christmas one year. I was able to stay toasty and warm all day with the addition of my velvet jacket.

I think I was moody all day on Wednesday and I meant to go grocery shopping before I got home but somehow got sidetracked and forgot so we had a weird medley of poor people freezer burned leftover food.  We split a microwave mac and cheese (a guilty pleasure of mine) and I made Quorn chicken patties and a saute of kale, walnuts and mushrooms.  It was too processed.  Later I ate a bag of popcorn and watched America's Next Top Model to drown my sorrows.
